Description
And so continues my quest to be able to draw children!I gave Amelia more "cheekadge" in her face, as well as made her body a little shorter. As for the twins... I tried to give them some missing teeth but it looked like they just got them punched out of their mouth in some brutal alleyway brawl.
As for the other three, these are new characters I've yet to find a way will fit into the story.
(The titles below aren't their actual names, by the way. Just whom they are based off of).
Well I'm assuming most of you know who a lot of these figures are, but I'm sure Lilenthal and Schmid are a bit more obscure.
Earhart: (b. 1897) Amelia Earhart was renown for breaking many aviation records; all of which had been previously set by men. She was the first professional aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, and wrote many best-sellers regarding her adventures and expressing her love for flight. She went missing in a noble attempt to circumnavigate the globe.
Limburgh: (b. 1902) Charles Limburgh became famous instantaneously when he crossed from New York to France in one non-stop flight; about 3,600 miles. Upon landing in Paris, he was greeted by some 150,000 people, where in their excitement hauled him around for almost thirty minutes. He used his fame to advocate aviation production.
Schmid: (b. early 1900s) Adalbert Schmid developed a successfully operational ornithopter, that was to be operated my manpower. Realizing that man does not have the muscle power necessary to flap wings, he later installed an engine. The flight lasted almost 15 minutes, and was completely controlled. Unfortunitely, due to the poor timing of his invention (during WWII), it went unrecognized by the public.
Lilienthal: (b. 1848) Otto Lilienthal was a German flight enthusiast who obtained the nickname βGlider Kingβ. He would be the first person to make well documented glides. He even developed a successful man powered ornithopter. His discoveries had thus informed the public about the possibility of flying machines. Lilienthal died when he lost control of one of his gliders.
Orville and Wilbur Wright: (b. 1871, 1867) The Wright brothers were not only the first to invent the first successful airplane (though some have arguments against that), but made the first controlled and sustained heavier-than-air flight. Their invention of the three-axis control (maintaining equilibrium and steering the aircraft) would revolutionize our abilities with flying machines as we know it. They are on the Ohio quarter.

their kid selves are so cute, and i'm excited to see them actualy be involved in more of your comics and guh, this calls for fanart.

Thanks
They're fun to draw as children! Even if I need a bit of practice with drawing kids...that's why I'm here in NY!
(Oh gosh If you made fanart I would be so overjoyed)
It's pretty nice! The campus is beautiful, the student body amusing, and the classwork challenging and scary, but definitely helpful. I'm finding I don't have as much homework as they say I will...but that'll probably change. My dorm is lovely, and so is my roommate. We draw old cats together.
Oh and there's a bunch of cats on campus called the "pratt cats" -- definitely makes it seem more homey Thanks for asking!
Hows senior year? Started yet? Isn't it FUN? ...

Children are just ...smooshy, like marshmallows.
And whoa, cool. Pratt cats, can you bring them into the dorms? I heard pratt's more...fine artsy ish, right? What have you had to do so far?
And, it's pretty good at school, homefront not so much. Lots of henpicking. Oh god, scholastics D:>

nebulafire In reply to blackkitsune93 [2010-09-09 20:46:39 +0000 UTC]
Eh...I can see why it'd be more fine artsy because the whole campus is literally a sculpture garden, but I think they do a good job of dividing up the majors accordingly and fairly. They focus more on theoretical concepts, which is why I like it. (For architect majors, I can see why that may be annoying).
You can take the cats to your room, yeah! Just as long as you don't forget about them. Actually, the other day, one of the cats (this beautiful black one) walked into the elevator, and looked at me expecting me to give him a ride up to fifth floor... gotta show 'em who's boss.
You're doing scholastics again this year? Good luck! I bet you'll get a gold on your porftolio

Oh cool, hmm maybe I'll try to apply there? JUST FOR THE CATS! Huh, you could sneak in your own pet cat and no one would know...that's so cool! I changed my major though. I want to be in animation now haha .
Yep, a digital comic, oh lawd D:

BOOOOOOOOOOOMG(what?). SECOND LIBBY'S COMMENT. SO MUCH PETER PAN. AND WITH OUT TINKERBELL. IT IS AWESOME.
Also you did a really nice job on the coloring with this one. It's very clean. And I just realized I've never asked this question: Why don't Fynley and Rastor wear shoes?
These guys seem like they would all be in a school club together. I approve of the blond glasses kid and the Charles Limburgh kid. HE IS SO ADORABLE. I really love the style you used to draw their faces too, its fresh and fluid.
I have a feeling art school is going to do amazing things for your art! C:

I NEED TO WATCH THIS MOVIE AGAIN I'LL PROBABLY CRY FRom happiness. Libby's sending me Hook. Even though I told her no that's too nice she doesn't have to do that, she went ahead and did so. Checking the mail has never been so thrilling.
They are naturalists, they love the feeling of dirt under their feet. Plus, they're boys. They like getting extremely dirty and then they tick off their mom when they waltz into the house. Shoes are too constricting for them.
Dorks unite. They'd play DnD in high school. Thanks so much -- I'm working really hard at trying to draw kids better...I showed some people here drawings from the story and asked them how old they looked -- some people thought they looked around 20. Yikes. I've been studying from actual children, too.
Awwww thanks Kaitlin

Got it. I now understand a the deep psychological meaning of their bare feet.
Yeah dude I see huge improvement with the age thing here. I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE HOW YOU GET OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS.

THIS REMINDS ME. SO MUCH. OF PETER PAN.
JUST... JUST KIDS.
KIDS EVERYWHERE.
I LOVE IT.
SDIOHOSHGSOGH.
Lol, the twins with their missing teeth. They got in a few barfights, I know it. And Amelia definitely looks younger with those new cheeks of hers. Now that I think about it, she didn't have a lot of baby fat even though she was only fourteen or so. She had a very mature face. And did you add the mole to her cheek, is it a splotch of ink, or am I just stupid and have never noticed it before?
BETSY YOU KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT FLIGHT NOW. IT'S BEAUTIFUL.
I still think it's so cute how everyone just picked Lindburgh up and refused to put him down as they paraded him around for half an hour. Your depiction of him, it... it just looks like a Charles. That is the epitomy of Charles, right there. Or maybe Charlie. I think if I saw Charles Lindburgh like that, I'd call him Charlie. And then he'd punch me for being rude but it would be worth it.
Haha, Schmid wasn't strong enough to use his own invention. That's kind of cute, in a way. I LOVE HIS GLASSES. They're so big.
I think Lilienthal is my favorite! Partly because he has bright green overalls, and partly because it seems like he's ignoring the madness besie him and just getting his work done. What a bosssss. And he has a blowtorch mask. It doesn''t make him look evil, but it's still pretty cool. And his name's Otto. And I like his hair for some reason.
Yaaaay, Fynley and Rastor! They're on the Ohio quarter, lol. AND THEY'RE FIGHTING. YESSSS. SIBLINGS FIGHTING -- IT'S CUTE. And, whoa, Fynley looks a lot younger now. I have no idea what you did, but he looks a lot younger now. Nice job! Are you satisfied with their new ages? Do people you ask think they're actually children now?

CHILDREN
You and Kaitlin make me haapppyypyyy
Rastor can kindof sort of not really pull it off, but Fynley definitely can't. Maybe when they're even younger? Yeah, looking at older pictures of her, I can see why people thought they looked like they were in their twenties. Yes SHE HAS A MOLE NOW . I'm thinking about giving her a gap in her teeth too, because the REAL one did. Explaining why she never smiles with her teeth.
I WISH I KNEW THAT MUCH I really don't, but I'm working on it! The mechanical aspects I definitely need some help with...
I know. That story made me smile honest to goodness. Oh, and speaking of wonderful moments in history, remember that photograph of the sailor and the nurse kissing in Times Square? The one in Night at the Museum two? Yeah, she was some random girl he grabbed. And he's just like, "hey. The war is over." *world famous photograph* He does? Oh goody! I've yet to find a name for him...maybe I'll just stay with that, since Amelia kept hers.
His story is so cool, but so sad! He made this BEAST ornithopter but everyone was too distracted by the war! And thanks!
I put his mask over his face, because I have no idea what he'd look like. I picture him with a German accent, though. Yes. His isn't as cool as Rastor's because it doesn't have an angry face on it. Thank you!
I know, I got it on accident and I still have it...Perhaps I'll steal all of them.
Good ol' sibling rivalry. AND TWINS AT THAT I bet you know what that's like.
He does? Oh I'm so glad to hear. The only comments I got on them so far was "their cheeks are rosy". We'll have to see... By the way, sitll haven't gotten your package yet.I'll inform you as soon as I find out.

Aww, Amelia would be cute with a gap in her teeth. I like how she's become such an impish little thing, and she grows up to be this beautiful young lady. C: That's really cool. I APPROVE. The mole really suits her.
The mechanics are tough, yeah. The good news is that there should be plenty of blueprints to work with -- DaVinci's sketch and the ornithopter prints and all that good stuff. C:
LOL THAT MAN IS THE BEST. He just grabbed a random girl, oaishfoshfoshg. I always thought they were like a lifelong going-to-be-married after the war, and it's some random lady off the street. I think... I think this just made my day.
Whaaaat, the movie hasn't arrive yet? D: Ofosgsg. It shouldn't take this long to ship to New York. Maybe they got all confused because of how the label was put on the box. I wouldn't be surprised if that delayed them somewhat.

Impish. That's a great word for her! "I won't wear the fancy shoes... because they aren't comfortable. I'm wearing a dress anyway, so he will never know."
Thanks!
Wooooo! Sometimes I wish my left brain haddn't been consumed by my right brain, though. It would maake it easier.
Isn't that fantastic!? I know, I totally thought they were destined to be married or something. IT MADE MY DAY(S) TOO
I'll go check mail right now!! Maybe it came today

Lol, her boots with the fancy dress. Oh, Amelia. Just too great. I like how she's like a passive rebel of her own lifestyle, even before she meets Rastor and Fynley.
Yeah, I can see why having more of a balance would make life easier. You leak creativity out of your ears, though, which is pretty sweeeeet.

Ah, I have an answer!
Mom says that the package is probably still in transit. I guess they don't do anything with mail on Sunday or Labor Day, so it's been delayed a little bit.
Also, she wants to know if your P.O. box is big enough for packages, or if you will have to ask at the desk to see if you received anything larger than a standard envelope.
π: 0 β©: 1
nebulafire In reply to koi-7 [2010-09-11 13:20:50 +0000 UTC]
WOOOO!!
Well basically, we have itty-bitty mailboxes big enough for the smallest of envelopes. If you get a packadge, you get a blue slip in your mailbox. Then you go to the packadge people and give it to them in exchange for your packadge Really a nice system!

OH BY THE WAY. As soon as I get postage stamps, I'm going to mail you a letter. A bona fide letter. Made of paper and pencil. And I will doodle beautiful things all over it.
