Description I drew Metamorpho because I thought it would be so much fun to draw all the various textures on his body.  He can be fire, ice, steel, rock, mud, clay, wood, water, slime, sludge, gas.  I also loved his comic design.  And he was very fun to draw.  I wanted it to be sort of a classic feeling.  I really love how it turned out.

Apparently around the mid 80s alot of comic artist's favorite character to draw was metamorpho.

He is a very very fun character, fun comic even, a guy with lots of different textures and possibilities to his body.  A different guy who is a unfrozen caveman.  Stuff like that wouldn't get old for a very long time.

He was recently a feature in the recent legends of tomorrow comic and I knew very little about him so when I read it I was like "wtf is happening."

I have been getting that too.  Pricey comic but good art and stuff.

Very nice I don't suppose you'd be doing Element Woman too?

I hadn't planned to add more but now that you mention it.  I am imagining drawing her more like Rex, bald.

This is excellent, man. So very well captures the character.

Any plans for his supporting cast, al la your Blue Beetle?

Thank you.  I tried to keep that in mind.
I haven't planned on a supporting cast... until you mentioned it.
Java, Saphire, Stagg, I will be thinking about this now.

Joey, Urania, Karen Parker, possibly Shift?

Yeah, I can imagine interesting ideas for them and how they could fit into Rex' supporting cast.
Stagg, Java, Saphire, Joey his son (is maybe stuck looking younger than he is like his father's powers slow his aging), Urania the Element Woman, even Shift (like that episode when Clay Face separated into a little girl and her father), Ahk-Ton, and Jillian Conway.
But I couldn't find Karen Parker.  Who is she?

Funny, Lordwormm said the same thing...

Karen Parker
Outsiders v1 #21 1987 DC
Daughter of Spectrumonster of Strike Force Kobra
Supposedly adopted by Rex and Sapphire but, much like Roger Birnam Jr and Batman, she was never seen again.

Did she have powers?  Might be cool.  Rex (super father), Saphire (human mother), Joey (super son), Karen (adopted human daughter).  Stagg (grandfather/untrustworthy like Lionel Luthor in Smallville), Java (uncle type/family frienemy).  Shift (A sort of mystical breakdown leads Rex into creating a child version of himself that breaks away... like with Clayface in the cartoon).  Element Woman is like Rex' Batgirl/Robin type. (I actually don't know much about her.)  Urania could maybe be a more soldier like version of what Rex could have become... maybe.  (Don't know much about her either.)  Ahk-Ton, and Jillian Conway, hmmm, maybe the Elemental Power of Metamorpho could be like Nuclear Power.  Rex is trying to make sure few have it or that it isn't in the wrong hands.

Also, I am very surprised no one has taken advantage of the Roger Birnam Jr. character from Batman's past before.  especially someone like Grant Morrison or Scott Snyder.

Parker didn't have any powers at the time, no. Y'know... Describing the family like that sounds more'n a bit Munsters. Which might not be the worst touchstone. Munsters meets Indiana Jones?

The Element women are almost more like Rex's Bond Girls... Urania was a super-spy and Jillian was another archaeologist. I always did like the idea that Shift was a piece that broke off Rex when he almost died being heroic. Shift being some kind of "life flashing before the eyes"/lost opportunities/wish fulfillment/last ditch chance at having the family he never would because he was about to die sort of thing so Shift comes-to as a much younger version of Rex definitely has potential. Metamorpho Jr in the Teen Titans or some such instead of the Outsiders. Where one could also set up Indigo.

You keep mentioning the Clayface in the cartoon, but I don't know this one.

This might be helpful: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metamorp…

That Morrison never used Roger Jr surprised the hell out of me. Devil worship, secret twin (who was never actually given a name) locked in a basement for a decade, mistaken identity, Phantom Stranger... Even a brief synopsis sounds so right up his alley he should've been tasting it.

Couldn't find the scene where she was born but here is a scene from the show:  www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoqhDH…

I thought of the Munsters too.  I like the Munsters+Indiana Jones (Or Johnny Quest) type thing.  Maybe include more Egyptian stuff.  And a Peter Parker just trying to live his life while being Metamorpho keeps them from it sort of thing.  They aren't trying to be superheroes.  While Urania and Jillian could actually be going out being superheroes on purpose.    Thanks for the wikipedia.  very cool.

the drawing was done for my portfolio, but the appeal of drawing him and them more is very strong.

Also about Roger Jr.  Morrison would incorporate all the various ideas in Batman that people seemed to retcon or set aside.  A character like Roger Jr. could have been brought in so easily into the whole Batman family.

That sounds like a good time - Rex and the family just trying to be normal and nuclear, but between Simon Stag and the weirdness the metamorphae seem to attract they don't get a lot of opportunities. And Rex with his museum/dig consulting gig. heh... Barbecues with the Pierces and Smith/Suttons interrupted by Doctor Polaris... Kind of the Incredibles in reverse - they did the hero thing and now just want some peace.

Awesome, and that would be a fun comic.  Gives Rex a supporting cast, friends and enemies.  Each character has their own story.  They have something do do while not being superheroes.
