Description Heres a possible map of our world, 250 million years in the future, requested by This is a map of the terrain of this future world, showing the arrangements of the continents (such as there are, what with this being a Pangean world) and the placement of mountains, icecaps and oceans.

The world is in the mid-glacial, like our own, but there is no longer a continent at the south pole; there isn't much of anything at the south pole in fact, only millions of square miles of sea-ice surrounded by great frigid circling currents, unbroken in their path around the pole. There is land at the north pole, however, as most of Eurasia has continued pushing northward over the eons, and a hefty ice cap sags over thousands of miles of what was once Finland, Siberia and Alaska.
The Himalayas have been worn away to lower Alp-like mountains; they were once down to foothills, after India stopped pushing north - they were only pushed back up by the breakaway margins of east Africa. The new "Roof of the World" is a great range which stretches from the 10km high ice-capped peaks formed by the Andes colliding with Mexico, to the great platau pushed up by Australia colliding with the Canadian Rockies.

Most of the rest should be pretty self-explanatory Feel free to ask any questions or comments.

Could I use this map for a future earth alternate history, it's the best Novopangaea map I've seen so far.

Hello there Neetis.

I'm trying to write a story, and need a map is essentialΒ for places of references(country's, city, towns, forest and the like). And this map design looks pretty good. Could you make me one like this, with rivers and lakes? Or do you have a blank base that I can use?Β

I like the map, but why MYF instead of MYH (Million Years Hence)? It doesn't really matter either way, I'm just curious.

Reminds me of a future zoology documentary named "the future is wild":
-humanity suddenly disappears
-all mammals get endangered in 100 million years
-eventually, for some reason, all vertebrates except for fish go extinct in 150 million years
-the oceans are populated by shrimp instead of fish
-flying fish replace birds
-there are massive jungles in which rhino-skinned, legged mollusks have replaced the vertebrates (elephant-squid and monkey-squid)
-the inner circle of the continent is occupated by a giant desert with carnivorous plants, giant ant hives, one-footed hopping snails and massive underground "rivers" populated by both algae-feeding and carnivorous tapeworms

It could go either way, really. Humans, like all animals, still undergo evolution, but our unique lifestyle means that for the most part natural selection doesn't do much. We help those that would otherwise not survive a more primal lifestyle lead full and long lives, and technology gives us the ability to overcome events that could affect us, like outbreaks of disease. 250 million years is plenty of time for a significant amount of evolution to take place, so one of three scenarios seems plausible: humans remain largely the same biologically (civilization has been around for about 10,000 years, depending on who you ask, and the only significant changes in human physiology over that time has been that we have become larger and live longer lifespans, both results of increasingly effective medical technology, though 10,000 years is almost nothing in terms of evolutionary development); civilization collapses (perhaps multiple times) and humans evolve into a new species (or several different species) as they adapt to changing environments; or humans go extinct and a new intelligent species might evolve (though not necessarily, there's no reason that intelligent life must evolve). Of course, there's all kinds of stuff nobody can account for, so there may be more or fewer possible scenarios. Personally I think we'll still be around, and largely the same. There will probably be vastly different racial features, and we might have a few physiological differences by then: complete lack of an appendix, and the small toe might become much smaller (though not gone completely as the muscles connected to it are necessary for bipedal balance), more or less body hair depending on how the global environment changes (though the amount of body hair will likely still be a racial trait, much as it is today). Take all this with a grain of salt, I am by no means an expert, just a biology nerd, and nobody can know for certain what the future holds or how it might affect us or the planet.

We've changed from monkeys to what we are now in around 5 million years, so in short, our civilization would be long gone from this planet, and possibly the universe, as we may turn into omnipotent immortal bodies by than, not needing to live on worlds or need resources to survive.

Neethis In reply to Guyverman [2012-06-20 07:38:41 +0000 UTC]

The very western edge is essentially western Europe (britain to spain) with a 90 degree rotated africa to the east (the mountain range is where the mediterranean used to be). The southern fractured continent is Antarctica. The eastern side of the map is a warped eroded north america, while south america has rotated to slip up the west coast Chile-first. Asia and Eastern Europe sit over the north pole, bordering Africa and north america, and between North/South america and Asia is squashed Australia

Hope that's clear enough

can you draw another Future Supercontinent map ??

like Pangaea Ultima.

Neethis In reply to Taiwan2111 [2011-11-28 17:37:30 +0000 UTC]

I could, but I don't like Pangaea Ultima lol.

Which one anyway; the one with Austro-Antarctica or where Antarctica and Australia get combined with South America and Indonesia respectively?

Taiwan2111 [2011-11-26 12:06:35 +0000 UTC]

so the Future Supercontinent is Novopangaea.

not Amasia or Pangaea Ultima ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Neethis In reply to Taiwan2111 [2011-11-26 12:35:46 +0000 UTC]

Here, yes

I've always prefered Novapangaea over the other options; Amasia leaves Antarctica where it is now, which if you ask me seems a little strange; the idea that the rifts would pump out enough new seabed to keep it perfectly still seems a little... stupid And Pangea Ultima requires the Atlantic to magically stop widening and seal back up, which again seems less likely than a continuing of the current state, given Earth's previous history. Also from an artistic viewpoint, Pangaea Ultima looks too much like Pangaea

Wouldn't there be a lot more deserts from the mountains causing a rain shadow effect? Plus the sheer land mass size.

Pangea Ultima always strikes me as boring also, while I understand the mechanics behind it, its always seemed a little too "neat" for me to see the Atlantic just close up again, when it's still expanding as of now...
