Another pic for "A Refugee in Oz." If you've read many of the Famous Forty, then you can probably guess what text will go on the sign.

Jack Pumpkinhead is loads of fun to draw, and he's also good for making myself loosen up. As I've mentioned before, I have a habit of trying to overcontrol my art, resulting in things looking stiff. Can't do that with Jack! As for Tik-Tok - Now that I've gotten used to him I can enjoy drawing him, and I find that I've come to like him as a character. He doesn't have a terribly important role in this story or the next one, but I have an idea for a story featuring him. I'll have to play with the idea, see if I can make it work. However, if I do end up writing that one I must buy a compass. Drawing circles freehand is a pain.

This drawing (and these comments) was done under the influense of pseudoephedrine. When I'm goofed up on cold meds I feel apathetic and stupid, but the few brain cells that remain online can focus on normally tedious tasks for a long time without getting bored. In this case, that meant researching and drawing finicky details and spending plenty of quality time in Photoshop shading it. (I didn't dare crosshatch it; my hands are not steady enough right now.)
