Hi Neha,
Impasto just means thick layer of paint as opposed to a more uniform, smooth layer. The former usually looks more vigorous, spontaneous and has more energy. While the latter has a cleaner smoother appearance.

As I gain more experience, I find myself in the same camp. Those thick layers of paint can really instill your painting with energy not possible with thin layering.
