Description
When I first heard of how "Starfox Assault" was going to feature missions on foot, I immediately envisioned an epic, gritty, warfare simulator starring the Starfox bunch, even though I had my doubts. As much ridicule the recent trend with the "bloom" visual effect has received, it would have been nice to have here.When I actually got my hands on the game, my fears were proven true.
Except for the rare gems, Japanese developers generally blow at shooting games on foot (both 1st and 3rd person), and this game was no exception. Also, the flight missions started off awesome and went quickly kind of downhill from there.
I also wan't a big fan of the retro-future look of everything as well.
Hence I draw pics like this, play games like CoD4, and cry myself to sleep.

I recon Starfox is kind of going the way of sonic now.... slowly dying. I hope rare somehow gains the rights to it because nintendo dont know how to remedy the shit that they have put it through.
Just look at starfox commands, they used the old 'starfox: laylat wars' (or 64, depending on the country you live in) multiplayer system for it and added the crappy diaglog to it, similar to what you would find in bad internet manga (all wingy feelings and nothing actually gets done, all through the game, never stopping, and very repetative).

It seems the Starfox franchise is always a pawn when Nintendo wants to try something new.
The original had the Super FX chip, which worked out pretty decently.
The 64 came along with the much touted rumble pak, which also worked very nicely.
Adventures was I suspect a test in letting third party developers mess with Nintendo franchises. Nintendo could never let anybody get their sticky fingers on their most treasured like Mario and Zelda, so they "allowed" Rare to have a go with a second-tier franchise like Star fox.
I'm not sure what Assault was all about ... the vehicle-foot thing wasn't something new (though it may have been to Nintendo), and it seems like they were just milking a moderately successful franchise.
Then Command was another test at "piloting with the stylus" which I hated.

Damn. I wish somebody with vision could take a crack at StarFox someday. From what I've seen, I'm not impressed with the newer games in the franchise. (Considering what hmsnike said, they probably are alright... just not the best.) About the picture though, Wolf here is definetly not on model, but it's the lighting and bold, aggressive lines that really make this picture POP.
And a StarFox game like this does sound bad ass.

First off: Great picture. 
On Star Fox: In the game developers' defense - hard though that is some times - when you get a piece of gaming gold the likes of Star Fox 64, and get people clamoring for more, you invariably end up with something definitely short of the mark you set initially. Does Star Fox: Assault measure up to SF64? Not a chance. However it isn't a bad game if you ask me, and I liked the new look of the ships. But the ground-based missions felt awkward. Hopefully the next one will be a return to Fox doing what he does best. Blowing stuff up in his Arwing fighter.
Or... A prequel following James McCloud's story??? Okay, I need to stop before I sneeze out a fanart.

I LOVE IT!!! This was what I wanted to see out of Star Fox, but unfortunatly we can't have everything we want. Awesome job, what did you use to make it look like this? It gives it a very nice look.

I used the program SAI.
It has some brush options, so I used them to give it the brush look.
I turned on the option for rough edges and canvas texture, and turned down the opacity slightly.

but yeah, Assault wasn't as good as expected... I haven't seen an epic Star Fox games since 64 came out...

Hah, yeah. I too thought these tank and foot missions would be more darker and awesome. Instead...the only cool thing about the game was the intro stage then the rest went to hell and back...
