Description
I find it interesting when people of faith criticize each other for a lot of the things that they actually share. Like with prayer/ritual/whatever you want to call it. You're trying to contact a higher power, you're trying to appeal to them in some way, and you're trying to change something in this world by asking for it.Anyway it was just a weird thought that went through my head the other day, thought I'd share it.

Yeah, most christians don't get just how hypocritical they are when it comes to this. I moved away to college and hadn't been gone six months when a local pastor and his lackey knocked on my apartment door to invite me to their church. I had been loosely orienting myself with eastern philosophy at the time so I just said "Thanks, but I'm a Buddhist" to which he replied "Well, the bible says..."
I forget the rest of the conversation but the point is that his knee-jerk reaction was to judge anyone not aligned with his thinking as unworthy. I've replayed the incident a number of times in my head and my revised version has me telling him off for being judgemental when his own creed warns against it.

Sometimes I really think I SHOULD convert to Bhuddism or Daoism the way the nutty Christians act make me want to do it even more and more...

Do whatever seems reasonable to you but remember that dogma is dogma regardless of the belief system.

Personally I think I'm content being agonistic-atheist mainly due to the fact I've been psychologically scarred by Christianity.
Bhuddism and Daoism just always mad me curious because it just seemed less psycho.

Sure, there's some truth to that. If there is a divide between religion and life philosophy, Eastern belief structures definitely tend toward the latter rather than the former.

I remember reading in a book about Wicca that "casting Spells" and "prayer" are essentially the same, you're just doing things a different way and contacting a different "higher power" if you will.
Technically depending on which sect of christianity you're in, you're doing some kind of ritual there as well. Catholics pray the rosary and they do all kinds of "rituals" if you will. Some sects of christianity speack in tongues, isn't that a ritual? Also, in the church I used to go to, many people were annointed by oil to do God's work. Isn't that a ritual?
So I agree with you there, it's the same thing but different. If that makes any sense. o.o

Something I've noticed is that religious people are very quick to say that other demoniations are using gods word to further their own agenda, yet they get very offended if you point out that's pretty much the same thing they so. Voltaire even wrote a song about precisely that called "god thinks..."

It's true. Christians aren't against nonsense -- just any nonsense but their own.

Exactly what I was trying to get at when I totally flipped my shit on your astrology deviation I'm really really really sorry about that, it wasn't meant for you , I promise it was meant for religious folk who scoff at it and then go eat a wafer they think is the body of their Lord , again sorry Ehem... Though this makes me think. I find creationism to be ridiculous and insane , yet I don't see believing in the trinity or prayer to be anymore irrational then what I believe.

Haha no worries about the astrology deviation! But yeah, that's where you differ from most Xtians I know. They wouldn't hesitate to name your beliefs ridiculous, in the meantime many of their own belief's practices are actually Pagan in nature. It's almost beautiful how ironic it is.

;^; ok~
I actually mentioned that in another comment somewhere else. My friend was in tears awhile back because a christian had been belittling all her beliefs and she said something along the lines of "I don't get it he believes in a man rose form the dead and in the bible, how is it any different then my believes, he believes one thing I believe another why can't we leave it at that, why does he have to make fun of me?"

"You believe there's a pantheon of gods looking down on us? That's just silly, not like believing in our god who had to kill his son who was also himself so he could forgive humanity for something it wasn't responsible for in the first place!"

Oddly I had an slightly ironic dream last night regarding I guess religions of different sorts. (Trying to escape one to find refuge in another, and then find out they're assholes too)

Pagan religions tend to be full of lots of nice people, I've noticed Though of course there always is drama wherever you go.
I guess that's just the way people are huh

Yeah, the weird thing was I was running (well in the -dream- I was flying, as I always often can in a dream) from what I guess was a Christian like group of ppl, to another group, and it turned out they were mostly like Gothic, idk for what religion exactly, but they weren't so nice either, but they didn't kill me, so that was a plus. Weird dream though :-/

I'm jealous! I never have dreams where I fly. I've been having weird dreams lately too. Can't remember what happens in them though. Only just a feeling of "Wow what the heck!?" then it's gone, haha.

Well, I can only figure my spirit (bare in mind I am a Deist, not entirely a Atheist nor a Theist, I do believe in the existence of spirit, essence or other forms of self besides the flesh and blood we see and feel normally) has got a pair or a few of wings, since it seems so natural and it occurs so often. But I do think perhaps my dreams have something to do with my overall lack of sleep as well as what I've been consuming-such as energy drinks, hehe. Not the brightest of ideas to have one then go to sleep.
I have that same problem though too-I try to remember, I had an earlier dream during a short nap last night when I was talking to my friend, it was about the ponies from MyLittlePony (FriendshipIsMagic), which was funny since I woke up and she was telling me about some mlp characters she'd made for this RP we might do later. (Except I'm not as creative when making my own characters and I get really self conscience as a result, especially when she gets upset)

I always wondered that myself. My mom is christian and finds it odd I refuse to believe in her god, but she openly rejects how pagans choose to speak to their gods or goddess. What's the difference really? Prayer should be prayer as long as nobody is harmed or animals abused.

Agreed there Though I don't share either belief, I still think so long as it's not actively harming another person or creature it's not terrible.
