Description Original quote: "Isn't it insulting to the average male's intelligence to think that surgery is preferable because he can't be entrusted with washing his genitals, when somehow he manages to brush his teeth, clean his ears and blow his nose?" Original Source, as far as I know

I really dislike the pro-circumcision argument that falls along the lines of, "If he's cut, it'll be easier for me/him to clean."

Despite what you might think, cleaning an intact penis is not difficult .

This is how simple it is, really:
1) Gently pull the foreskin back
2) Rinse with warm water only. Soap under the foreskin can cause irritation and swelling
3) Pull the foreskin back in place over the head of your penis.

Infancy - early childhood:
Only the outside of the intact penis needs to be rinsed with warm water.
Foreskin should NOT be retracted during cleaning.

Age of 5/6
Boys should be taught to retract their own foreskins once a week and rinse with warm water.
Boys might not be able to fully retract until aged 10 or more, but this is normal.

If you would like to learn more about why you should not have your child circumcised, feel free to drop by *Seitar 's group, #EndCircumcision !

Well I can tell you that we all use soap or shower gel to clean our pee pee here . Otherwise it would smell cheese whizz! Water doesn't remove odor and smegma (even though I've never had any visible white buildup ohh lord jesus I can't!) I wouldn't dare to suck a "water washed" cock either :3

If you're worried about odor or uncleanliness, you should just make sure water hits everywhere and gently rub to make sure you've gotten rid of any dirt. You can use soap, it's your body so do whatever you want - but no, you are not supposed to.

So I just double checked, and I was right - only water should be used. The glans and inner foreskin have a mucous membrane, similar to the eye or vagina, that can become irritated with the use of soap. Also, smegma washes off with water and does not cause health problems, it functions as lubricant.

There's nothing wrong with smegma, you don't need to get rid of it...it's sort of important and good for you.

This isn't Tumblr, we don't use reaction gifs - especially when it's a link, that's just lame. If you're that pissy about being wrong, you could have just not answered instead of being snippy.

I was not beeing snippy. I was beeing funny. I'm not "pissed about beeing wrong". Get off your high horse lol. Ok you're right, yes, and I'm not mad haha. Me and my people all use flawless gifs on facebook.

I'm not on a high horse, I know I was right because I don't speak about something I'm uneducated on. Am I on a high horse if I say the sky is blue? No. I do apologize, though, for misinterpreting the emotion behind your response - it's hard to tell what tone someone's trying to convey when all you have to go by is text.

Then use soap? It's easier than hacking off parts of the body that people are too lazy to clean properly.

Oh yes, this stamp is so great I have always been wondering why circumcision is such a big deal even without religious background. I have wondered why somebody would have their babies have a surgery for cleaning purposes? Every male I know never had problems with cleaning themselves and even if there are problems later with the foreskin being too tight, they still can have a surgery. But as far as I know, there are only a few men actually having problems.

I think the 3 step process of cleansing overlooks the fact that many bachelors don't even use soap for days on end

I'm cut and I don't mind.

If I somehow am forced to recognize a to-be-born child as mine I would investigate the pro/con stuff before making a decision. I'm assuming the chick who's having the kid gets a say too, mainly since she's going to be raising it.

Some men I know seem not to mind that they're circumcised, while others say that when they found out they were really upset, and still aren't very happy that they didn't have a choice in the matter. I suppose it depends on the person.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EbolaSparkleBear In reply to Nekromanda [2012-06-23 02:20:11 +0000 UTC]

The guys who are 'upset' are either hung like pen caps and need everything they can get or they're emo because none of them remember being cut unless it was a religious ceremony.

It's not like half was cut off, because then we'd all be up in arms and burning doctors on trees and shit.

Nekromanda In reply to EbolaSparkleBear [2012-06-23 03:18:53 +0000 UTC]

Hm, I suppose that might be the case for some people, but on the other hand - others have specifically told me it's because it upset them because they did not have a choice in it. And they're not 'hung like pen caps,' haha.

EbolaSparkleBear In reply to Nekromanda [2012-06-23 18:06:33 +0000 UTC]

Good, they need to learn that people do not always have a say in their own lives.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nekromanda In reply to EbolaSparkleBear [2012-06-24 01:52:34 +0000 UTC]

Well, yes that's true. Though I don't feel that sort of thing should be out of their hands when it comes to something that they're born with, something that is there because it serves a purpose. I mean if it's not something physically harmful to your body, it should be left up to the actual person. If that makes sense. I think of it like this - I wouldn't have my baby tattooed, because not only is it taking that choice away from the child, but imagine the uproar in the news. People were freaking out about the 11 year old who got a voucher for breast implants from her mom for her birthday, so obviously they think it's not the best to modify a young child's body for non-medical purposes. So then why is circumcision given the OK? It's the same sort of situation, usually it's done to observe religious views, or so that the child looks a certain way ("normal," "like their father," "clean," etc). Just my thoughts on it, sorry if it sounded a bit rambly, I stayed up too late watching documentaries and am just now having my morning coffee haha.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EbolaSparkleBear In reply to Nekromanda [2012-06-24 03:08:59 +0000 UTC]

Tattooing babies is not a medical issue.

Cutting the baby is not a casual decision, it's medical/health decision that the parents are not making to punish, diminish, or harm their children with.

No one breast implants a new born. The voucher is not applicable to the topic since it's not a health decision. That was just a bad choice by the parent to have a kid that young thinking about their tits.

Morning coffee is better with 12 ounces of vodka in it

Nekromanda In reply to EbolaSparkleBear [2012-06-24 03:27:00 +0000 UTC]

No, tattoos aren't medically relevant. But in most cases, circumcision is not a wholly medical issue either. The American Association of Pediatrics has said that the potential medical benefits are not sufficient to recommend routine neonatal circumcision .

It can be dangerous. Just recently, a little baby boy bled to death after being circumcised. They say it's an unforeseen consequence of the surgical procedure, though it's been shown that 100 infants die a year from circumcision complications, and that's just in the US.

Unless it's necessary to any future son of mine's health, I won't be circumcising him. We are the way we are because that's how we evolved. Obviously there is some sort of benefit to having a foreskin. As I don't believe in a God-that-made-us-in-his-image-except-for-that-little-bit-of-skin-there-on-the-end-of-your-dick, I won't be mutilating my child's genitals, and I'll be encouraging others not to, either

Haha, vodka is more my husband's thing, I'm happy with cheapo mixed drinks like Mike's Hard Lemonade, I'm not much of a drinker anyway

The problem lies with medical knowledge and the access to that information for parents make educated choices.
If the old status quo is bad then it should be overturned/revised.

The Abrahamic god is stupid for having a dick in the first place.

I learned to do that when I was like six or seven years old.

The idea that it's okay to start hacking away at a baby's penis because god created us perfect except for that foreskin part is as ludicrous as it is despicable.

Agree completely. I always wondered about that though, if we're supposed to be made in god's image then why would he want us to fuck it up with circumcision? O.o

most circumcision advocates view the procedure in an entirely cultural/traditional sense. the hygiene issue is merely an artifact of the desert history of semetic peoples. it really isnt an issue of cleanliness any more than kashrut law is about public health. with all the social pressures in relation to personal hygiene in America, the real risks are nothing compared to bronze age standards. personally i view circumcision the same way i do body modifications such as piercings or tattoos. my circumcision is a badge of my culture, and i love it for that; i also have no problem with sensitivity and really couldn't imagine sex being anymore pleasurable, nor would i want it to be anymore pleasurable. it seems that most would never have any opportunity to observe the contrast, therefore a clear comparison would surely be elusive. reminds me of Dr Seuss' story of the starbellied sneeches in a way.

The thing I find interesting about the "he can just clean it!" argument, is that there are many men who don't clean it properly or at all. I mean, would you want a dirty appendage inside your mouth or other bodily orifice? I wouldn't.

Nekromanda In reply to Ask-War [2012-06-11 11:23:14 +0000 UTC]

That's gross, yes, but on the other hand... Would it make sense if someone who thought that washing their hands was too difficult decided to have their hands surgically removed? I don't think so, especially when cleaning yourself is so easy that toddlers and small children can do it. :/

Difference is, you don't really stick your hands inside someone elses body. Cleaning once or twice a day isn't nearly enough for it to be considered clean.
