Description
Original quote: "Isn't it insulting to the average male's intelligence to think that surgery is preferable because he can't be entrusted with washing his genitals, when somehow he manages to brush his teeth, clean his ears and blow his nose?" Original Source, as far as I knowI really dislike the pro-circumcision argument that falls along the lines of, "If he's cut, it'll be easier for me/him to clean."
Despite what you might think, cleaning an intact penis is not difficult .
This is how simple it is, really:
1) Gently pull the foreskin back
2) Rinse with warm water only. Soap under the foreskin can cause irritation and swelling
3) Pull the foreskin back in place over the head of your penis.
Infancy - early childhood:
Age of 5/6

Well, if the person is an adult, able to consent to the surgery, then that's their choice. My disagreements are mainly with the circumcision of infants when it is medically unnecessary.

Why is it unnecessary? With the laziness that people display these days, I wouldn't be at all surprised if most men simply let water run over it in the shower and called that clean. Basically, it's disgusting. I wouldn't want to sit there and assume the guy has properly cleaned it before whipping it out. He would have to scrub it thoroughly several times a day for it to be considered clean.

Actually, that's what you're supposed to do. Soap can irritate it and cause bad bacteria to build up by killing good bacteria. That can cause yeast infections which will make their penis unclean and smell. It's the same thing with vaginas. Women who use soap on or in their vagina's are more prone to yeast infections and vaginal odor.
Vulvas and vaginas also produce a lot of smegma and bacteria, even moreso than males. Yet most heterosexual males are willing to have penetrative sex with a woman, and quite a bit even perform oral sex on them.
If a man does acquire a yeast infection, it's often from their partner having one. It's easily treated by OTC anti-fungal cream.

"Actually, that's what you're supposed to do." Not my problem. Either clean it until it's sanitized, or don't bother. Water doesn't wash away everything.
" Soap can irritate it and cause bad bacteria to build up by killing good bacteria. That can cause yeast infections which will make their penis unclean and smell. It's the same thing with vaginas. Women who use soap on or in their vagina's are more prone to yeast infections and vaginal odor." Instead of soap, use something else. Bleach if you want. I use rubbing alcohol when I do it. It hurts, but at least it's a lot cleaner than simple water.
"Vulvas and vaginas also produce a lot of smegma and bacteria, even moreso than males" This isn't about female genitals, it's about men.
" Yet most heterosexual males are willing to have penetrative sex with a woman, and quite a bit even perform oral sex on them. " And I also find that gross. However, a woman isn't penetrating a man with a dirty appendage.

THANK YOU.
This is the thing that pisses me the hell off about the whole circumcision bit. I can almost *almost* sympathize with the 'I want my son to look like his father' argument, even if I don't agree, but not being willing or being too embarrassed to teach your son to clean his dick? That's part of being a parent!
Shit, while we're at it, I hate having to explain to my daughter about the intricacies of wiping her back and front separately. Can't we just surgically graft on some sort of barrier? /sarcasm

If a guy decides in adulthood that he needs to be cut, it is his choice at least. Usually, it's a medical reason and that's fine. A baby is not being given a choice! Especially, if said baby is a Catholic. Hey, I mourn the loss of mine because I wasn't given a choice, nor was it ever explained to me. I didn't know the difference until I saw other boys in our school shower who were not cut. It was a very small percentage of boys though. Phimosis is rare, but if a guy has the condition he's has to do it. I consider it needless mutilation for what? Religious beliefs? Investigate the church and you'll have no choice but to agree.

Indeed. I think the most rational one simply stated they do not like it out of personal preference, and made no attempt to bring up religion or their personal feelings. Honestly, it surprised me, in a good way.
Most of the time I get ludicrous shit like "the baby deserves life!" or "its wrong!" etc. It's getting old, they need new lines to keep peoples attention. I think they should start saying "abortion is like sodomy! it hurts everyone!" that way, we all have something else to laugh at.

How is it ironic?
It's more ironic when someone is Pro Choice and Pro Circ, considering being Pro Choice is about protecting physical autonomy and not wanting anyone to be forced to do something with their body that they don't consent to - and infant circumcision does just the opposite of that.

Dametora In reply to Ask-War [2012-06-12 00:06:19 +0000 UTC]
That's what you're supposed to do. Scrubbing, or using soap or chemicals, are irritating, and the latter offsets the pH balances of the genitals. They're a mucous membrane, running (warm or hot-but-not-too-hot) water or wiping with a dampened rag is really all that's needed. You don't scrub or put soap in the insides of your nose, on your eyes, or up your ass, do you?
They are good at maintaining cleanliness themselves otherwise, they just need routinely rinsed or wiped.
I don't know why you think that somehow lacking a foreskin would make a man more likely to do anything but run water over his genitals.

"That's what you're supposed to do. Scrubbing, or using soap or chemicals, are irritating, and the latter offsets the pH balances of the genitals. " Not my problem. Either clean it like you would any other body part, or don't bother. I don't know about you, but I don't want a dirty appendage in my mouth or other body part.
"You don't scrub or put soap in the insides of your nose, on your eyes, or up your ass, do you?" Actually, I do. I believe in being clean. Try again.
"I don't know why you think that somehow lacking a foreskin would make a man more likely to do anything but run water over his genitals." I think that because he lacks foreskin, not as much bacteria and crap will be on it and thus a little cleaner.

"What you're saying is against medical and hygienic science." Not my problem. Clean it right or don't bother. Letting water run over it isn't sanitary, some bacteria will stay there. With foreskin, it will show up more often because alot of men don't want to clean it regularly.
"Considering you said you scrub your damn eyes I'm going to chastise myself for taking a troll seriously." I use a napkin for that, easier on the eyes and other sensitive areas. It does sting though.

The thing about "phimosis" is that a lot of idiot doctors in America diagnose it way too young, while the foreskin is supposed to be fused to the glans, and they have no idea it's possible to treat actual phimosis WITHOUT removal of the foreskin - stretching exercises, creams, or a dorsal slit are 99% of the time all that is needed.

I should add, that I'm mainly referring to the circumcision of infants, since they cannot object. If an adult wants to be circumcised, that is his decision to make.
