Is there really a Satan though? Or a god? Just some thoughts...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

I don't think there is any reason to believe there is a Satan any more than there is any reason to believe that Thor and Zeus exist. Why are you pretty certain that there is?

TheBattyCrow In reply to Nekromanda [2013-10-07 11:43:02 +0000 UTC]

Can't make soup with a cook, and to many cooks spoil the broth. That's how I know

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nekromanda In reply to TheBattyCrow [2013-10-07 16:05:32 +0000 UTC]

Sorry to be blunt but that's not a very convincing argument. Do you care to explain further?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheBattyCrow In reply to Nekromanda [2013-10-07 16:49:56 +0000 UTC]

How do you dispute that?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nekromanda In reply to TheBattyCrow [2013-10-07 22:07:22 +0000 UTC]

Well, it seems to me to be a bit of nonsense, could you clarify your meaning?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheBattyCrow In reply to Nekromanda [2013-10-07 22:42:41 +0000 UTC]

How so? what exactly is nonsensical about believing in a Creator when there are so many creations? Or if you believe in evolution, something had to have come first, something had to have been put there on purpose.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nekromanda In reply to TheBattyCrow [2013-10-08 04:17:24 +0000 UTC]

I wasn't exactly understanding how you could explain your knowledge the existence of Satan by using the statement you used, that's where the confusion was. But now that I know we're talking about creationism, I'm more than happy to discuss it, haha.Β

Firstly I have a question, how well do you understand the theory of evolution? Like, what would you rate your understanding of it at? Β

Second, it's not that it's nonsensical, it's entirely possible that there may indeed be a creator. I am willing to admit that I don't know, and that it may be impossible for us to know whether or not there is or is not a God. Β My argument is that our existence works without the concept of a God, so why bother trying to stuff one in there? Β

But back to the soup and cook metaphor -- I've got another question. If the cook made the soup, what made the cook?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheBattyCrow In reply to Nekromanda [2013-10-08 12:41:16 +0000 UTC]

Besides the FSM?

The 'cook' if you will was always there. God, being the Creator, always has been, and always will. Therefore, He creates the 'soup', oversees their development, and provides for them.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nekromanda In reply to TheBattyCrow [2013-10-08 14:13:20 +0000 UTC]

So... Everything needs a creator, except the creator. Β Sorry to say, but that falls under the logical fallacy of special pleading. You introduced a rule "Can't make soup with(out, I'm assuming) a cook." Β You can't just move the goalposts to make your argument fit especially after you've established the rule that everything needs a creator. :/Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheBattyCrow In reply to Nekromanda [2013-10-08 23:18:26 +0000 UTC]

I didn't say the cook needed a creator - I said can't make soup with a cook, so the cook has to come along before the soup is made.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nekromanda In reply to TheBattyCrow [2013-10-09 09:50:04 +0000 UTC]

So special pleading, as I said in my last comment. You can't just change the rules, if soup needs a creator, the creator needs a creator.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheBattyCrow In reply to Nekromanda [2013-10-09 11:29:58 +0000 UTC]

But why? Why can the cook just be there? Besides the rules of physiology, all that stuff, what if this cook is beyond those rules?

In fact, He is so beyond those rules, what if He created them?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nekromanda In reply to TheBattyCrow [2013-10-10 12:42:22 +0000 UTC]

It makes no logical sense. If everything needs a creator, then the creator would need a creator, and so on and so on. Β The thing is, the explanation of the existence of our universe doesn't need an ultimate, rule-breaking creator in order to exist. The physics of it all works just fine without needing to complicate things with gods or goddesses.

stephmala In reply to ??? [2013-10-02 00:57:51 +0000 UTC]

I always considered this. He does seem evil. In fact I can't help but compare him to Darth Vader. I find your lack of faith disturbing *kills with magic*. He commanded people to kill innocents, he respected the fact that Abraham would rather kill his own son and save his own ass from hell rather than prove blood is thicker than water and sacrifice himself. He destroys two cities *cough aldaraan* and when a woman DARES to pity the suffereing screaming people of the city he turns her to salt. This is not a very nice person. No wonder he wanted to keep adam and eve innocently stupid so he could manipulate them easily.

The fridge horror of the bible is just so intensely bad that if God was a character of a movie today (and not a biblical char) then he WOULD be the villian! Those acts are unspeakable to any sane human being.

If you read the Bible you would disagree with that. He tries to help us, but in the end its our choice.

hairidan In reply to stephmala [2013-10-03 11:02:15 +0000 UTC]

I agree, God is kinda evil. He flooded the entire Earth, killed Job's entire family, gave him the plague and desires to be praised by all people and those who do not praise him will be punished and burned forever in hell.

And what did Satan do? Satan isn't mention over the course of the Bible (as much as I've read it) and he's the bad guy. He punishes bad people, that's what a good person does. YET HE'S THE DEVIL WITH HORNS AND A PITCHFORK.

Seeing as god supposedly created evil (and fully admitted such), and Satan punishes 'evil', it seems to me that Satan would be more like the good guy, and god would be more of the bad one.
