Description
I always find it hilarious to come across comments on controversial artwork like this. Not only is the artist in the wrong for daring to post something that could be interpreted as even a tiny bit controversial on the internet, but the commenter also gets to point out that "forcing" your opinion on someone else on an art website is terrible! And then they'll tell you why they're right and you're wrong. The comment thread that inspired this on Opposing oppression =/= supporting oppression by ~Mike-the-cat
And it's almost as though they are completely oblivious to the fact that political cartoons exist. Fun nugget of information: America's oldest political cartoon was "Join, or Die " by Benjamin Franklin. It was used to encourage the colonies to unite against British rule when it was published initially, and was used over again in later wars.
*Quick note to my followers! I'm way behind on responding to comments again, my apologies! I have had a busy few days, but I should be able to start replying later tonight... Apologies again! D:

Wow I guess this person doesn't know that some of the first cartoons to be in newspapers were on politics.

There's an old feminist slogan, "the political is personal, and the personal is poltical", and that's a notion i adhere to. The conversations people have arond the diner table influences how they vote which influences the political climate. If this is NOT the case, then we got a severe democracy problems on our hands. Because of this, even silencing discussions about politics is a poltical act, favoring the staus quo.

"It's not like politics can be interpreted by art in any way! How stupid does a cartoon about political topics sound?!"
Obviously that person has never seen political cartoons.

Well I think because I have posted my political and religious opinion on dA is the reason I will never reveal who I am

Seriously, art has been used as a way to make a political point since the beginning of art. Oh, and writing too (because writing is also an art that requires skill and presentation). Art has been used to tell stories to support the ruler of the time, used to depict injustices, used to try to obscure poverty, used to rally causes, used to support or object to policy, used to sell war bonds, and used in propaganda. To deny that politics should be in art is as absurd as denying that politics should be in speech.

Haha. While we're on the topic, photography should be banned too because it represents the real world. Also still life paintings and illustration, because someone might not agree with the content there. Actually, let's just ban all art on deviantART, because someone somewhere will always be offended, why start fights? CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG

I believe that the internet is one of the ONLY places where it's acceptable to talk about this, because you can express your true opinions and no one will care. Seriously, what is UP with people?

Nekromanda In reply to fujoshianimechick [2013-02-09 12:41:23 +0000 UTC]
Haha, well, I disagree with that because if we don't talk about politics offline as well as online, nothing would get done. But the internet is definitely a helpful tool for expressing political/religious opinions.

I was laughing while read that because I've heard them. I actually had some said to my posters on the politics and yeah I told them that political posters and cartoons are old school piece of art and IS allowed here at DA.
My fave is the "why are you forcing your ideas on us?" I respond with "Do I have you tied to the chair and not allow you to change the page? Did I force you to click on some political art? You were the one to click on it, you can click your way on out if you don't like it." and more commonly with "DA is a vast site with a varied sources of art, not everyone has some interests or ideas of art. If you don't like a piece, don't click on it. Its that simple"

Nekromanda In reply to Katzztar [2013-02-07 01:38:30 +0000 UTC]
Haha exactly! It's so weird to assume that people are trying to force you to do anything just by sharing their art online.

Katzztar In reply to Nekromanda [2013-02-07 05:20:21 +0000 UTC]
They fail to see anything is their fault so whene they click on something that offends them, of course it the artist's fault for that.

Katzztar In reply to Nekromanda [2013-02-09 14:10:58 +0000 UTC]
Oh I know, its like its their responsibility to 'educate' the poor artist of what is wrong with their "choice of poor excuse of art"and "You've just change your subject to NOT include this, then more people would fave it". (actual quotes I've seen)
Frankly I've seen a lot of fandoms and fetishs I just don't get or find disturbing. I can not understand inflation (and I'm NOT talking of econmonics-lol) or having a woman's boobs so big they make 50 to 75% of the body mass. I do not review and say how wrong it is, I pass it by and don't bother with it.

Lol, some people huh! I guess the words "live and let live" never really made any sense to them.
Totally agree with not "getting" certain fetishes. Inflation is, to me, bizarre. I mean no offense to anyone who enjoys it, I just think it's weird. Same thing with vore. Frankly, that's the only one that I've come across that manages to make me actually feel physically ill. But yes definitely right there with you with responses. If ya don't like looking at it, don't look at it, haha.

That is exactly what happened to me today. A feminist who was new to this site, and rather moderate in her views, was offended by my most recent stamp, and the fact that I referred to the more extreme feminists as "feminazis". She protested in rather the same manner as your cartoon depicted.
