Description I've been wanting to dramatize this photo for a while now as it had all the potential for it, so here you go

-----
Post processing: I combined a lighter and darker image to get the right contrast, I upped the contrast, changed the colours and reduced the noise.
Location: Isle of Skye, Scotland.

My photos are NOT stock. This means I do not want them to be used in any way. I don't mind them being used as a reference for a drawing/painting though: please visit this link for the rules nelleke.deviantart.com/journal…

White-Hellion [2013-10-12 21:39:26 +0000 UTC]

Obviously, there is tremendous drama inherent in the clouds and beautiful landscaping. I feel that the color enhancements may detract from the overall impact, however. There is an oppressive heaviness to the image, in my opinion. If there was more balance with the warm colors and the flinty blue-greys that exist in many of the other images, I think it might be a better image. One of the gauges I use in making these comments is, would I like to stand on that land as it is?Β

As an alternative, if the root resolution of the raw image allows, I would love to see what your image treatment would look like if you could crop down to an image of the building and its immediate surroundings.Β

As ever, your images are thought provoking and overall quite wonderful! Thanks as always for sharing your creativity with us!

Nelleke In reply to White-Hellion [2013-10-13 07:48:46 +0000 UTC]

Cropping it was my initial idea when shooting this, but I'm afraid it doesn't work. Just like the colours just don't work with less saturation or other colourschemes. You have to work with the inherent characteristics of the photo itself and then make the best of it. Rest assured that I always try everything before uploading it on dA! I'm aware this photo is heavy, that's why I called this a drama photo in the desctiption.Β  If you prefer the blue-greys you could just look at the original version of this photo I uploaded a couple of weeks ago

Wonderful clouds.

Have you thought of making a B&W version? I believe that you have enough contrast and differences in structure to make it work.

Nelleke In reply to Myrddhin [2013-10-13 07:54:59 +0000 UTC]

Myrddhin In reply to Nelleke [2013-10-20 08:42:45 +0000 UTC]

IT'S ALL ABOUT SIZE WITH YOU WOMEN ISN'T IT!?! SMALL, SMALL! lol

Actually your title is ironic. The Old Man of Storr gets it's name from the fact that "old man" is a colloquialism. The stack being very phalic that is. The Storr bit comes from the Viking era, when those pesky Norsemen came to the Hebrides to take a wife to settle down in Iceland. Some Settled in Skye and around and left us with many strange place names. Storr means BIG!!!

I know your title refers to the cottage but I thought I should explain the irony.
