only when drunk people are left in charge. these ones failed to meet ball bearing standards on a couple of crucial issues- notably - <1> not being ball shaped, and <2> not able to function in a bearing. but still - some of them have feet, which is only a short evolutionary squiggle from opposable thumbs. and the first mutant ball bearings to grow a couple of those will laugh in the face of perfect sphericity.

being round is not such a very good evoluionary thing unless you live in a perfectly flat land ( cambridgeshire is not, i have driven quite a few roads there!! ) and being spherical on a mountain or hill will end in tears even if sobrity is the order of the day fingers would be better than aposable thumbs, as the now deceased for runners of the thumb mountain climbing asoceation would testify if they hadnt fallen to there deaths!!

true.. although in fact if they couldn't climb using only their opposable thumbs, they could never have got far enough to fall to their deaths. and at least they could put on their safety harnesses first. without opposable thumbs everything would be a pain in the arse. i feel bad for dolphins. if they are as bright as they say they are, they must be really pissed off about their lack of opposable parts - they probably have loads of brilliant ideas, only to realise that since they have to do everything using just their nose, they may as well give up and just swim about squeaking. we'd never have got the pyramids built if we had to carry everything in our mouths and head butt it into position..
