Description
A flash animation of a turtle warrior and a rabbit ninja facing off in a gladiatorial match.I reccommend right-clicking the screen and choosing med or low quality if the animation isn't smooth on your computer.
Sorry about the loading time folks. I think the size of the file is 6.77MB, so please be patient while it loads. Thankyou.

Thanks. I relied heavily on tweening and I have always been praising the method more than frame by frame.

You missed it because the marketing department (myself) didn't raise enough funds from investors to promote the animation itself. Perhaps you'll see some brand names shamlessly plugged in next time.

This was very well done. I can see how your drawing skills come into play here. The movement & timing of the limbs and legs were very convincing. Good choice of voicing and music. I'm interested in what you can do with fbf. Neverless, for your first, truly excellently executated.
About compression:
1. Audio, stream the music. You can do it through checking the audio properties in the layer. I say this contributed to the bulk of the file size since it was set to a higher quality and ran throughout the entire animation. Streaming it will significantly reduce it.
2. Graphics, if necessary, you can further compress images through holding shift+ctrl+alt and C and also through lowering the jpeg quality when exporting.
Very impressive animation.

I actually had the initial choice to do the animation either frame by frame or taking advantage of Flash's tweening. I started out doing traditional fbf but got easily tired and scrapped it after about 10 drawings. Tweening made working on it so much faster and appealing. However, I'm very interested in combining both techniques after seeing how some animators seamlessly utilize both tweening and fbf. If you haven't already, you gotta check out Adam Philip's Bitey of Brackenwood series at his website or at newgrounds.
As for compression, I've recently tried streaming almost all my audio (I didn't stream the main music because it doesn't keep playing onto the the next scenes). I've also lowered the quality settings of both audio and graphics when I exported them. I didn't really notice my jpeg backgrounds losing any details, but the audio is pretty horrible after lowering the bit rate parameters.
In the end, I think I was able to lower the file size from 6.7MB to about 6MB but it isn't enough to submit to newgrounds (the goal is 5MB). Out of curiosity, I've even tried removing the music altogether but even that wasn't enough!
Anyways, thanks alot for the helpful tips and detailed comments!

well,I can say that the art was great, and the tweens were smooth, but theres just one little problem with it,the file size,I mean,im on broadband, and it still took quite a bit.
oh,and maybe write a less obvious plot next time, the second the rabbit rolled onto that barrel/board see-saw thing,I knew what was gona happen. other than that, great job,if you could reduce the filesize, it'd get at least a 3.00 at newgrounds.

I'm glad that you commented here. I was waiting for someone to say something about the file size and loading time. I appologize to everyone who had to sit through it. It was my first flash, so I got carried away with the animation without thinking about internet viewers. As for the plot, it took a backseat to the animation because the project was for my 2D animation class.
BTW I wonder if there is a quick way to lower the file size because I am planning to submit it to newgrounds.

im betting that you did the backgrounds in photoshop and such?
thats probably whats accountable for the size, seeing as tweens have lower file size than fbf.
if you didn't draw the backgrounds in flash, and exported them as jpegs, then imported them, then thats why it's so large.
flash has great audio compression, but when it comes to images, then its a different story.
great flash btw man ^^.

Update: I've just added a replay button becuase I figure there's a lot of details in the animation to make it worth watching it through one more time. Sorry if it sounds like I'm kissing my own butt. Anyway, I believe it's smoother the second time around depending on your computer. For those who do not see a smooth animation, try right-clicking the screen and choose a lower quality from the drop down menu.

NIce work. One thing that stands out to me is the confetti at the end, it's practically floating there. It would add a lot to the scene if it came into the frame and had some variation in direction/speed. If you used motion tweens along with nested movie clips you could give a pretty random appearance of the individual pieces without making it too much work to animate.

Thanks for the critique. It might be better if the confetti did come from out the camera shot.

I bow down before the awsomeness of your animation. That was by far one of the best animation i have seen in A WHILE! The backgrounds were good the characters moved flawlessly and the voices were perfect. You are my flash master and i will dedicate myself to studying in your footsteps....

Well, much thanks for the praises. It took a lot of hard work and dedication on this project, but I was having fun at the same time. I guess the key is to be passionate about something enough to want to learn more.

Thanks. A guy name Blake Shepard provided the flexible voices for both characters. He said he actually did some voice overs for Chrono Crusade as well as some other anime by ADV. However, I got the voices to sound deeper for the Turtle by adjusting the pitch in some audio program.
