Most "soldiers" are not really noble at all, the time when you could respect someone for going out to fight a war is over. My Dad was a Major in the Terestrial Army and he'll tell you the same thing, they only recruit no lifers and nut cases now, they sigh up to shoot people.
The US might have the most technologically advanced soldiers, but it's nothing a civillian with a gun can't handle in Iraq, the british soldiers on the other hand are known for their quality over quantity, didn't you read about the guy who threw the grenade back nad saved his squad? You don't really hear those things about US troops.

actually u do... In WW2 a soldier through himself onto a grenade to save his fellow soldiers. They were fighting on one of the Japanese islands, i dont remember which one.
And in another account a grenade was tossed into the back of a military truck, a U.S. soldier grabbed it and tossed it at the german who threw it, killing the german and saving the truck.
Also a U.S. Sergeant took out several German machine gun nests by himself, saving countless lives. He was given the Medal of Honor. As have many other U.S. soldiers for the valiant service. U.S. soldiers are just as brave if not braver than their British brethren. The U.S. has defeated Britain in 2 wars, and we've aided them in 2 more. Britain would be speaking German now if it weren't for the soldiers of the U.S.A.

The U.S. wasn't always as big as the UK. We've only been bigger than them for the better half of the 20th century. For the longest time Britain was much much larger and controlled a larger army. Britain is the tiny wet island she is today cuz of its inability to effectively rule her colonies.
