Because the Black Panther is only supposed to be an inherited title, and only one person at the time can inherit it, and be a hero.
That leaves no room for expansion. One person cannot do everything alone. One hero will never be enough.
You are insulting everything the Black Panther stands for.

Here is where you are wrong, T'challa and his sister Shuri both shared that Black Panther mantle at the same time in more recent comics. I dont know which issue but you can find it yourself. Also She is not insulting anything

I don't need to look anything up to know that I am the one who is right.
Just like Batman did, any true hero would think ahead, a know that one hero is not enough to save everyone. You need an army, and in a future where they have accomplished their goals and reached absolute equality, all of them wouldn't be the same race.

Dinner for 2+ years...
He would also hunt someone down without being sure that person was bad.
At least he stopped when he learned he was wrong though.

I just hate these SJWs who think they are great for constantly obsessing over race.
They have called me a racist, even though I hate racists more than they do, and have zero interest in what "race" someone is.

I think that a black depiction of black panther would be better, but I want to argue that NeoArt hasn't done a lot or any black characters yet. Being able to drawing a different race and skin color means knowing and understanding the nuances of that race, and that requires study. NeoArt might not be skilled enough yet to paint a black character to a standard he would accept.

Look, NeoArtCorE is free to do whatever they want with their art, but it's inconsistent with the character of Black Panther and even inconsistent with their OWN WORK which has previously not taken these kinds of liberties in gender swaps.

Instead of berating people for wanting a more accurate version of a character that is a descendant of African royalty, ask why did Neo feel the need to change her race when he's never done that before?

Honestly, how hard was this?

To ascend the Black Panther from a mere title used by one person, to a symbol shared by many heroes, all future Black Panthers wouldn't be of the same race and have the same skin color.

Sketchy31 In reply to Tasorius2 [2017-10-27 16:46:06 +0000 UTC]

What? That's not the goal of Black Panther at all. Black Panther isn't supposed to supersede race. He's supposed to be the King and protector of Wakanda, an African nation.

The point remains that it's a title handed down through a line of African royalty. Could a white Norwegian become the President of China? I guess it's possible, but it'd still be kind of odd.

Tasorius2 In reply to Sketchy31 [2018-03-15 06:05:10 +0000 UTC]

Pay attention to the words "if" and "then".
I am describing the character based on the things you said about him, which would make him all that I stated above.
You are the source of the hypothetical things I said.
If the source is bad, the gathered data will also be bad.

You should go and learn about if-statements, before you encounter one again and fail to understand what it means.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sketchy31 In reply to Tasorius2 [2018-03-15 19:03:34 +0000 UTC]

You didn't seem to understand the "data" especially after establishing that strawman.

The "and can neither fall in love with a white person nor allow them into their country"  is an extrapolation that I never referenced. Pay attention to the words I actually used.

If Black Panther is a worthless King because the line of royalty did not extend to people of other races, then you must assert that the Black Panther has never been accomplished anything or had any relevance.

You should drop the condescension, too. It's unbecoming.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tasorius2 In reply to Sketchy31 [2018-03-16 05:43:30 +0000 UTC]

You said that it's impossible for a Black Panther to ever be another race.
If that is true, it must mean that the Black Panther cannot fall in love with someone of a different race, and/or wouldn't accept a person of a different race into their family.
Otherwise a future Black Panther could be a different race.
It's a contradiction that you refuse to explain...

I made an if-statement and you treated my sentence like a factual statement, so if I was "condescending", it's your fault for acting like a moron.
You are the one who should pay attention to what I am saying, and start thinking logically.

👍: 1 ⏩: 1

Sketchy31 In reply to Tasorius2 [2018-03-16 06:41:24 +0000 UTC]

I'm a moron now? Come on, you're better than this.

I NEVER said it was "impossible," so again your if-statement was based on a misinterpretation. I'm not sure you're paying attention to what I'm saying and you're creating hypotheticals without actually asking for the explanation you're looking for.

I said it would be ODD, considering the lineage of BP and Wakanda. I think it was ODD that this image was not clearly a depiction of an African BP because all of his other works do not take such liberties when he gender swaps the character. That fact that we have to conjure a reality to justify his artistic choices speaks volumes. It's ODD.

It would not be impossible and it would not be unwelcome, but again, in the current context it is ODD. There is no explanation given that this character is anyone other than T'Challa.

And, hey, if you can't see the condescension in your replies, that's fine. I've read your other replies to people and I understand how you feel about people's comments about this, and the annoyance you feel about why someone can't accept a lighter-skinned BP is not unlike the annoyance felt by people who want a darker-skinned James Bond, for instance. However, we can communicate that without asserting that I'm incapable of thinking logically, understanding If-Then statements, or acting like a moron.

I feel like this got way out of hand and far away from the original intent of people being disappointed that this very talented artist didn't depict Black Panther as many are coming to associate him: as a dark-skinned African King (or in this instance, Queen).

Tasorius2 In reply to Sketchy31 [2018-03-16 07:25:34 +0000 UTC]

My conclusions came from your unwillingness to explain your reasons and the fact that you treated my if-statements like factual statements.

I'm glad she is white, because of all the black racists here who thought they had the right to hate all white people, and dared to say dumb shit like "black people cannot be racist".
They also agree with every instance of making white characters black, but they call the opposite "racism".

I have no interest in agreeing with your point of view, because you saw all that shit and still decided that I was the one in the wrong.
That invalidates all your possible "points".

Sketchy31 In reply to Tasorius2 [2018-03-16 07:54:51 +0000 UTC]

*face palm*

I wasn't unwilling to explain my reasons. You literally never asked for them. I proposed, in return, that if you consider BP "a worthless king" in his inability to transcend race, then he must not be relevant in any respect because the character has yet to do that in any meaningful way. If you are glad she is white, is it truly because of spite for black racists, or because you believe this character has much more to offer by being more inclusive? I ask that earnestly and without presupposition.

I read your other posts to further understand your point of view, not to comment on every single person having this debate. You commented on my post and others that "Hey, it'd be progressive for BP to be something other than 100% black" which I DO NOT DISAGREE WITH. But that was never the point of contention (for me at least.) A progressive BP was not the context for this illustration. That is why I disagreed with your conclusion that it did not matter, but not your premise that it could not happen.

I understand that you have no interest in agreeing with me, but I actually have no interest in disagreeing with you. I'm simply trying to make sense of the inconsistency within the artist's own work.

Tasorius2 In reply to Sketchy31 [2018-03-16 08:56:43 +0000 UTC]

I just thought an if-statement should naturally lead to an explanation...
That's why I didn't ask directly.

I didn't care at all until I saw all the racists.
If it's just fanart it really doesn't matter.
In movies based on other media, I generally dislike it when they randomly make a character a different race though.
Changing a character too much takes away from what they originally were.

It was not my premise that it couldn't happen.
Another person in this comment section must have said that, because I remember seeing those words.
I did feel like the image you showed along with the words "Honestly, how hard was this?" was extremely condescending.
Instead of saying a bunch of shit, these people could just have thought of it as a preference and moved on without attacking the artist, which some of them did.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sketchy31 In reply to Tasorius2 [2018-03-16 14:18:40 +0000 UTC]

I think those people attacking the artist were definitely out of line which is why I opened saying, “Hey, they can do whatever they want but...”

My comment “how hard was this” was mainly in response to people saying “well, maybe this artist can’t draw darker skin?” It’s not difficult for an artist of his caliber to use a darker palette. I am considerably less skilled and I was able to “darken” the image in a matter of minutes. It was not meant to be condescending, it was meant to illustrate that, again, this was a choice made by the artist to “randomly make a character a different race” when he clearly has the skill to do otherwise.

I have no problem with artistic license, but again I just found it odd because so much of the BP is rooted in the African heritage that changing his/her race seemed to take away from what they originally were.

I think everyone in this thread could have articulated that without passing judgement or attacking the artist. That’s not what this place is for. I am, however, glad we could have this dialogue and turn it into something constructive. I appreciate you taking the time to do so.

All "misunderstandings" came from you doing stupid shit like quoting me out of context and not explaining yourself.

I actually DO have a real interest in understanding. So, I ask you now. What would you like me to take away from this discussion?

Tasorius2 In reply to Sketchy31 [2018-03-17 05:09:10 +0000 UTC]

You misquoted me by using my words in a different context. A context that makes it sound like my opinion is the opposite of what it is.
I said that I don't care when it's just fanart, but that it's more of an issue to change characters (from a different media) too much in a movie etc.
The example I gave was the American Death Note movie, where they randomly made L black.
L is my favorite character in the anime, so I don't like that he was completely changed. It didn't make me go crazy like all the idiots who were offended and actually angry over some fanart though...

Try not to misquote people in the future.

👍: 1 ⏩: 1

Sketchy31 In reply to Tasorius2 [2018-03-17 05:21:11 +0000 UTC]

I used your words in my OWN context to explain that I felt about this illustration how you feel about when a similar thing happens in media. I was not saying that is what you believe. My apologies if I was unclear.

I didn't see your reference to the American Death Note, so I must have missed that somewhere. It wasn't in our thread.

When we don't assume the worst about the other I think these discussions can be even more constructive. I will try harder to avoid this pitfall in the future and I hope you will, too.

Tasorius2 In reply to Sketchy31 [2018-03-17 05:38:32 +0000 UTC]

That's not really how quotes work...
And it's not the same, because I don't care when it's just fan art.

In my head I had written it down, but I guess I forgot to.

If I made any assumptions, they were related to your lack of logic...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sketchy31 In reply to Tasorius2 [2018-03-17 05:52:41 +0000 UTC]

I feel like you're still misunderstanding what I'm saying. I know that you do not care when it is fan art. I was not saying that you care when it is fan art. I was saying that the way you feel when, for instance, L was changed in Death Note, was how I felt when seeing this illustration. It wasn't quoting you and attributing it to you. I was using your exact words to express MY point of view in the hopes that it might make it easier to understand my position.

I'll let whomever else reads this decide which one of us lacks logic. I feel we may be too subjective to make that assessment.
