And 4Kids censorship of Japanses things were not consistant. Wasn't it in One Piece, the riceballs were cookies? I'm thinking of scene where Zoro was tied to a cross (T-shaped one, true but it was still considered a cross by Romans)and was starved in the Marine base overseen by Axe-Hand Morgan, when little girl Rika came up and gave him some riceballs.

Thankfully FUNimation took over and has released a faithful uncut and unedited English Dub of One Piece.
So far only Episodes 1-456 have been uncut dubbed, but more episodes will soon follow.

True, but sadly that group that saw the 4Kids shows first are still traumatized. LOL
Others still come across it and judge the current show and the manga by it and they loose out on a looooot.
Esp since even in the original Japanese anime changes things from the manga.

I actually remember being a kid and watching that part. I think my memory inserted cookies when I heard them say "cookies." It wasn't until years later that I learned how wrong I was.

I remember once I learned what they were everything made so much more sense, and I felt like that was such a stupid decision. Kids get more than some American adults think they do, and the things they don't get - some kids might ask, but some might be more like me where they just let it go and get it in retrospect.
I learned a lot about Japanese culture growing up with anime, and I never questioned it or thought twice about why there were gags with futons or certain behavioral patterns that the characters had, or other things like that in Pokemon- if it was pointed out, maybe I would've thought it strange as a super young kid, but I also wouldn't have thought that it was weird or a difficult concept to grasp, and I would not have questioned rice ball snacks any more than I would people eating a steak in the pokemon world.

I UNDERSTAND SOME of the edits they chose to make (Understand, not condone) but calling rice balls doughnuts? IT'S A BALL. OF. RICE. I don't think that's too obscure for kids to figure out.
