Description
I offered requests and it seems Spider from the "Along came a spider' album is quite popular. But somehow he wouldn't do his bloody job in front of witnesses, instead he got comfortable and just kept on smiling. For a psychopath he has a great sense of humor it seems.
I didn't expect it, but this was fun to do - and I hid a few inside jokes for those of you who'll know what to look for.
Yes, I didn't do the make-up, but even murderers shower after a job well done.

"I'll Still Be There" is such an excellent stalker song. (And one of my favorites, it burns me that that one wasn't on the album.)
Also I'd loathe to interrupt a murderer's quiet time, but Dammit, Alice, you missed a spot. My OCD can only take so much. (Aw, he's so cute I can almost let it go. Almost.)

Yeah, I agree, that one would have been great on the CD. I can see why 'Shadow of yourself wasn't included' but the other one would fit perfectly into the story line.

What spot? That? Oh, it's decoration. I'm quite the creative decorator. Let me show you around, you'll love what I've done with my basement!

Clearly they ought to consult us on his next one. The CD could have held one more song, but noooo... damn you, iTunes.

I think it's kind of a game...
I have done this song no, it's not on the CD, *creepy voice* it's hidden away in some dark, dank place. Boohoo...! Off you go searching, fans!
Warm, warmer... Ah, you got it! See, even better if you have to work for it.

"Nope, nothing unusual going on here..."
Haha, Spider. My incarnation of him is considerably more creepy and antisocial... I like yours though. A calm, casual facade hiding a true psychopath. >83
My favorite track on that CD is "I Am The Spider/Epilogue". So absolutely chilling.

You know, I expected him to be a lot more deranged too, but this was the sketch that for some reason I liked best, it felt fitting and I worked from there.

I love it! I'll have to put up my own Spider sketches sometime. We came up with such different interpretations of the character - it's interesting how that happens!

Nephtis In reply to myoneandonly [2010-02-26 23:53:35 +0000 UTC]
Well, I assumed he was clever, able to act pretty normal and funtion in society, acting fairly normal - a drooling, twichting, mumbling lunatic would have a difficult time attracting prey after all.
Until he makes a comment or does something without realizing most people wouldn't consider it normal and then *you* realize how warped he actually is.
I think the most important part for me is that he doesn't see himself as deranged, I always thought he would be amazed that people don't get his 'art'.

myoneandonly In reply to Nephtis [2010-02-26 23:59:25 +0000 UTC]
True, I imagined the "functioning in society" type who is not visibly psychotic as well. My vision of him was that he kinda stuck to a sort of "underground" scene, where odd behavior and peculiar taste was normal. Walking down the street, he might get a few odd looks, but nothing that outright screams "psychotic murderer".
That's a good point though, that he doesn't see himself as crazy. I imagine him to view himself as "above" mankind in general, maybe even seeing himself as superior to humans - of course denying that he is one.

Nephtis In reply to myoneandonly [2010-02-27 00:19:54 +0000 UTC]
It makes sense, though I never thought of him thinking in terms of above or below.
But he does not treat his victims as equals the fact that he's just interested in a part not really caring about the person attached to the thing he needs.
I also could see him expecting his victim to understand that they'd be part of something special, something greater than they are by themselves - and be disappointed when they don't see it that way.
Still, somehow I didn't see him as the psychopath getting off on all the blood and screams, he might be willing to drug them to be able to concentrate, rationally explaining why he's doing it in hopes of making them understand.
Btw, I think Spider understands death (unlike Steven who can't grasp finality of that concept), he realizes he destroys something but he rationalizes it by saying that he's creating something better.

myoneandonly In reply to Nephtis [2010-02-27 02:11:35 +0000 UTC]
Haha, wow. This is an excellent grasp of the inner workings of Spider's mind. I couldn't agree with ya more. He sees his victims not as individuals, but as pieces of his grand scheme.
It does seem more like he uses people as pawns in his plan - "sacrificial sheep", as he put it. It kinda makes it all the more fascinating that he falls in love with one of his victims.
Of course, one of the screwier theories about the album that I've heard is that Spider is simply an alter-ego in Steven's head, and that everything that Spider did was simply imagined by Steven, who's locked away in an asylum. (I'm assuming it's based off of the epilogue on the album. "We've been in this cell for 28 years, Steven... we couldn't have done all those horrible things.")
I guess what I love about Alice's albums is that they get interpreted so many different ways. It allows everyone's creativity to shine through!

Nephtis In reply to myoneandonly [2010-02-28 20:59:23 +0000 UTC]
I love that about the albums too.
And I love finding somebody to discuss this with.
I've heard about the Spider=Steven theory, some even linking Spider to the character from Raise your fist an yell who keeps killing 'Gail'.
I think, if Spider and Steven share a body, they don't share a mind. Their outlook on life and death is too different Spider is more rational while Steven is emotional. If it's a multiple personality thing, that makes things veeeery complicated.

myoneandonly In reply to Nephtis [2010-03-07 04:43:43 +0000 UTC]
Haha, we Alice Cooper fans will always have something fun and morbid to discuss.
The Raise Your Fist and Yell serial killer, huh? Wouldn't put it past Alice. It's interesting to imagine that scenario - how did a killer who kept killing women he saw as "Gail" come to the point where he began constructing his spider-creature with his victims?
I agree about Steven and Spider's separate minds, too. If anything, Stephen is in a sense trapped in the same body as Spider, and not always in control. I kind of like the idea that they are multiple personalities in one body - it would make for a very interesting confrontation between the two, if they ever were to argue.

"What happens to them when you take their leg - they can't walk away like that."
"You don't need to worry about it, Steven, they are fine."
"But I want to know!"
"Shut up, boy, it's none of your business."
"Whyyyyy???"
"It's an adult thing!"
"Whyyyy???"
"Just because!"
"That's not fair! I liked the last girl, she was nice to me."
"She wasn't nice, she tried to play you against me!"
"But she offered to take me to the fun fair!"
"*sigh* She ... was ... trying ... to get you to unlock that door..."
"I could have. *You* never take me out!"
"I always take you out!"
"But I never get to do fun things!"
tbc...

Boy, you're all good at finding those hints.
As for his paper:
It has a wiki - and it's said to cover local politics, events, bands and clubs while selling ads for area strip clubs and escort services.
Just the kind of thing he might want to read to choose where to pick up a victim.
It's a little cross over between character and creator.

See, my Spider is the kind of guy with the big, bad, dark secret that acts fairly normal - until you realize he has no idea what *is* normal behavior.
