There liven an alien race known as the Vyrkonites from the planet Vyrkona. In addition to being extremely scientifically advanced, and naturally gifted telepaths, they were were obsessed with genetics. They roamed the cosmos in search of a species that would serve the perfect host for their genetic experiments. The scientists on Vrkona focused on 6 areas of study that they believed outlined reality: Mind, Strength, Speed, Time, Space, and Matter. They paired this with their genetic studies and wanted to create powered individuals to lead their armies. Eventually the scientists of Vrkona discovered the planet of humans, which they called Aert'Heyd, a combination of their words for "land" and "water." They discovered how malleable human genealogy was, and so they set out to begin their experiments with humans. It took a long time, but eventually the device was ready. Inside an artificial meteorite, they hid an emitter that would spread radiation laced with their genetic spores. These spores, in theory, would imbue superpowers and mutations in humans. Since this was only the first experiment, they placed twelve spores in the device. Two spores for each of the 6 studies.

They waited until a meteor shower hit the planet, then released their device from a cloaked ship outside the atmosphere. It crashed outside of town, and the device worked nearly perfectly. Ten individuals were mutated with their radiation, gaining incredible powers relating to Strength, Speed, Time, Space, or Matter. But something was wrong. The spores containing mutations for the Mind did not work. This intrigued the Vyrkonites, as telepathy was a very important part of their species and culture. They decided further experiments needed to take place with these humans...

The ten individuals that were mutated all became superheroes, for various reasons, but it was precisely what the Vyrkonites wanted to occur. Henryk Kowalczyk and Emily Bullock were given powers of Speed, and went by Haste and Streak. Jared and Leslie Hopkins were given powers of Strength and went by Titan and Titania. Sandra Carlow and Bobby Kollins were given powers of Space, and went by Flashback and Kinesis. Charles Ward and Hank Ross were given powers of Time, and went by Stopwatch and Relix. Natalie Swanson and Anita Suarez were given powers of Matter, and went by Phase-Shift and Density. Together, they were the unstoppable team Tenfold, and they vowed not only to protect their city, but uncover the truth of their powers and the growing alien threat.
