Jefferson Benson was a wealthy businessman who owned hotels, casinos, and other businesses all over the east coast. He looked out for other people and strived to do what was right for the good of others - or that was what people thought. In reality, his money and wealth was the result of owning and running of a massive underground crime organization that dealt drugs and weapons and regulated organized crime syndicates. On top of that, he was a tech genius, and designed most of his business's weapons himself. His children, Derrick and Amelia inherited his brains and were at the top of their classes. The two of them had no idea what business their father was really in, until one morning Derrick overheard his father talking on the phone with one of his associates. He told his sister everything he'd heard, leading the two of them to a terrible revelation: their father was not the person they believed him to be. They tried to ignore it and pretend they didn't know, but it was too much for them to handle. They had to do something about it. They had zero proof, so they couldn't go to the authorities. The two of them decided to sneak into their father's lab while he was away and find something they could use to put him away. Instead they found something far worse. They found records that confirmed their father had killed, stolen, and many other terrible things to promote his illegal businesses. They found designs for high-tech exo-suits that their father was planning to sell and use to take over a portion of the city - known as the Shores - by force. Derrick and Amelia stole two of the suits and went to the place where the deal was going down. They attacked the members of the syndicates and destroyed all the weapons that were being sold. They confronted their father, holding onto their last hope that he cared more about them than his work. They were wrong. As the remaining members shot at Amelia and Derrick, they flew as far away as they could.

They had now declared war on their father and his business. They modified the suits with as much stolen tech from their father's lab, making them their own. They called themselves Crimson Eagle and Sapphire Songbird. The two of them soon realized, however, that they wouldn't be able to dismantle the syndicates on their own. They began recruitment measures. First they met Xander Thomas, who lived just outside the Shores. He had heard about the coming takeover, and had planned to defend his neighborhood. Xander was the owner of a mystical staff that had been in his family for generations. This staff granted him many magical abilities. Amelia and Derrick built Xander a suit, and he became the Golden Hawk. Soon after, the trio met Victor Marteza who owned a boxing gym in the Shores. They built him a bulkier suit and dubbed him Emerald Dragon. Together they were the Flying Colors, and they fought against the organized syndicates and worked to dismantle them. It was a long and hard battle, but after almost a year they had at last exposed their father, destroyed his businesses, and had him and his workers arrested. They publicly declared themselves an independent superhero team.

A few months after this, Dalgos of Ostwyn attempted to take control of the tri-state area and consume earth with hellish fire. He was thwarted, but not before thousands to millions of spores were released into the air, which granted superpowers to anyone who came in contact with them. One of these individuals was Chloe Lee. She was granted the ability to communicate with birds. While this may seem simple and non-dangerous, it was frightening at first for her. Everywhere she went, birds would follow her in large numbers, and they were incredibly loud, especially for her. She traveled the country looking for help, and met the Flying Colors, who helped her gain control of her abilities before joining the team as Indigo Owl. Not long after she joined, the team was hired by the Superhuman Control And Regulation Squadron - or S.C.A.R.S. - to assist in the aftermath of the Dalgos invasion. But after working with them for a while, the team discovered a sinister plot, and worked to stop it. They allied themselves with local heroes and went against S.C.A.R.S., henceforth vowing to never let evil escape their sight.
