Previously on "Godzilla: The Chimera Effect" . . .

This drawing took WAAAAAY longer than I anticipated! Took me a full three weeks to complete this one!

For this installment, I wanted to focus primarily on Yuki's character development, expanding on ideas from my initial "Pilot" drawing of TCE (Godzilla: The Chimera Effect ), as well as adding some new things to the lore. I want TCE's story to have a plot that continuously revolves around the monsters, where even when they're not causing destruction on screen, they're still leaving an impact on the human characters, who are directly affected by their actions.

COMMENTARY NOTES

- BOTTOM CENTER: Yuki's Jet Jaguar hoodie is modeled, specifically, after the same JJ hoodie that Monster Island Buddies occasionally wears in his "Playtime" Godzilla Toy Reviews (youtu.be/Lvtujyzv3Lo?t=77 ).

- TOP LEFT CORNER: Yuki having recurring nightmares of either being transformed into a monstrous Godzilla-human hybrid or being stranded in the middle of the ocean, about to be eaten by Godzilla, rising from the depths below her.

- BOTTOM LEFT CORNER: A Flashback of Yuki being rescued by Sergeant Lanza from her initial Godzilla attack, losing both her right arm from crumbling debris and her sense of hearing from being in close range of Godzilla's deafening roar. Sgt. Lanza bandages her up and rushes her out of there in the nick of time.

- UPPER-CENTER/TOP RIGHT CORNER: Yuki is a HUGE fan of Michael Jackson's music and loves to listen/dance to his music whenever she gets a chance to unwind. She likes to dance to MJ's music when she think she's alone, but occasionally, she does get caught in the act, and gets really embarrassed by it.

- UPPER-RIGHT: Yuki and Sgt. Lanza spend quality time together by training and sparring together. This image of Yuki doing boxing practice with Lanza was inspired by a deleted scene from Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) (youtu.be/DQmVLpKgmGI?t=127 ).

- CENTER-RIGHT: Yuki criticizing the "inaccuracies" of The Giant Claw (1957). In the world of TCE, a select few giant monster movies from real life, like Giant Claw and Godzilla vs. Megalon (1973), still exist in their original form, with those films taking "creative liberties" on depicting the "real" kaiju that exist in TCE.

- LOWER-RIGHT: Yuki has an existential crisis with her Japanese/American identity. This was heavily inspired by the YouTube video, "My Asian-American Identity Crisis", by Emirichu (youtu.be/d2eVEjzM4FI ). Having established Yuki as half Japanese, I really wanted to explore this concept, and Emirichu's video really broadened my knowledge on the subject matter. In the best kaiju movies and stories, the monsters, themselves, are metaphors for real life problems, and Godzilla is the poster child of that notion, having represented several different allegories since his creation (Most notably, a symbol of nuclear destruction). With TCE, I wanted Godzilla to represent "The Ultimate Outsider." Something that could never co-exist with humanity. Even before she inherits Godzilla's cells, Yuki views herself as an outcast that can't fit in properly with society. Everyone sees her as some form of "abnormal", even her own family. Her life was already a mess. After she inherits Godzilla's cells, her life is an even bigger mess. Not only is Yuki's bond with Godzilla a physical trait, with her arm/superhuman abilities, but their bond is also a spiritual connection of the shared characteristic that the two don't belong in human society.

- CENTER RIGHT/ BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER: Uncle Eiji bonds with Yuki, aiding her condition by giving her a cream to help with her infected arm constantly shedding skin, while still feeling extreme guilt for using her as a test subject, hoping his serum would help her, only to make things even worse for her. At one point, Uncle Eiji gives Yuki an ancient Mothra amulet, which her father had found during one of his paleontological digs. Later, Yuki discovers that this amulet can be used to communicate with The Shobijin (aka The Mothra Twins) when she's asleep. In TCE, The Shobijin are spirits that only exist in "The Dream World" when someone wears one of the sacred Mothra amulets when they're asleep. When awake, this amulet can also be used as a spiritual link to directly communicate with Mothra (Who's also present in spirit with The Shobijin in Yuki's dreams), very similar to the amulets from Gamera: Guardian of the Universe (1995). The Shobijin's designs are mainly inspired by their Heisei designs from Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth (1992). Another one of my personal favorite Godzilla movies.
