Previously on "Godzilla: The Chimera Effect" . . .

Here's a huge stampede of all the Earth kaiju that currently exist in the world of TCE. A mix of old and new kaiju, along with the three main human characters: Yuki Honda, Sergeant Jared Lanza, and Yuki's Uncle, Dr. Eiiji Honda (The human characters in this image are NOT to scale with the monsters, btw). I didn't want to introduce each monster one image at at time because I, honestly, don't have the patience to do that. lol

I thought it'd be more fun to draw one, big collage of all the monsters I wanted for this series. This drawing took me two week to complete.

This was mainly inspired by this awesome wraparound cover for issue 25 of Godzilla: Rulers of Earth by Matt Frank, aka KaijuSamurai (Godzilla Rulers of Earth #25 wraparound cover ), though mine is nowhere nearly as spectacular.

The name, "Kaiju Nation", comes from the name of my DA group that I started a few years ago. If you need your fix on kaiju art, feel free to check it out!

COMMENTARY NOTES

- I've already talked about my inspirations for both Hebira and Giganykus in the description of my initial "pilot" drawing of TCE (Godzilla: The Chimera Effect ), so I won't repeat myself here.

- Mothra's design was inspired by her Heisei design from Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth (1992), her Millennium design from Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S. (2003), and her MonsterVerse design from Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019). I like the idea of Mothra having a bee-like stinger as seen in KOTM, so I incorporated that idea into my own version.

- Harridon is directly inspired by the Rhedosaurus from The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953), the same movie that was a direct inspiration for the first Godzilla (1954). His name is an obvious reference to special effects wizard, Ray Harryhausen, who did the stop-motion photography for "20,000 Fathoms" and many other sci-fi and fantasy films from the mid 1950's to the early 1980's.

- Anguirus's design is an amalgamation of his design from Godzilla: Final Wars (2004), his action figure design from Trendmasters's "Godzilla Wars" toy line from the 1990's, and an armadillo lizard (Specifically, the tail). This design is, more or less, what I'd imagine Anguirus would look like if he appeared in the Heisei Godzilla series.

- Rodan is a mix between his Heisei design from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993) and his Trendmasters action figure design. I've always had a soft spot for the Heisei Rodan. GVMG2 is another one of my personal favorite Godzilla movies and was my first introduction to Rodan. Also, yes, like his Heisei counterpart, this Rodan can also blast an atomic breath.

- Kiba the Invincible is a giant, six-legged mammoth, with two sets of branching, antler-like tusks, and is one of the tallest Earth kaiju (Second only to Stagon). His design is inspired by the extinct Columbian Mammoth and the Mumakil from The Lord of the Rings. Baring a thick hyde and armored plating, what Kiba lacks in superpowers, he more than makes up for in immeasurable endurance and pure brute strength. The name "Kiba" comes from the Japanese word for "tusk."

- Stagon is inspired by the Deer Zord from Power Rangers: Wild Force and the Forest Spirit from the Studio Ghibli film, Princess Mononoke (1997). His name is a mix between the word "stag" and the name "Dagon", the creature from the short story of the same name by H.P. Lovecraft. Like Mothra, Stagon is a benevolent, guardian-type kaiju who resides in large, wild forest areas and doesn't wage conflict with humans or other monsters unless provoked. He is the tallest of all the Earth kaiju. Stagon and Mothra share a symbiotic relationship, where Mothra will occasionally land on Stagon to eat any parasites leeching onto his hyde. Stagon gets a free checkup and Mothra gets a free meal. Yay! ^^

- Jinkuma is, essentially, my take on The Gryphon from TriStar's unmade script for Godzilla vs. The Gryphon (1994), with a heavily armored hyde, dragon-like wings, a venomous, scorpion-like tail, a wolf-like muzzle with a bat-like nose, curved devil-like horns, and razor-sharp claws with equally sharp gauntlet blades protruding from each forearm. His design is based on Stan Winston's maquette design for The Gryphon, Pulgasari from the 1985 North Korean kaiju film of the same name, and Rothbart's "Great Animal" form from The Swan Princess (1994). His name is a mix between the Japanese words for "werewolf" and "bear." He and Godzilla are the exact same height and, much like King Ghidorah, is a constant rival of Godzilla in TCE, where the two continuously battle each other for dominance. I have a very particular plan in mind for Jinkuma, which I hope to explore in the not-too-distant future.

- Sadly, I never owned any of the Trendmasters Godzilla action figures growing up, but I always wanted them. Even now, I still think those figures were well designed, hence, why I based Rodan and Anguirus on those designs in TCE. I still remember seeing the commercials for them when my parents would record shows on VHS tapes for me to watch as a kid. The one with Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla is forever burned into my brain (TRENDMASTERS Godzilla Wars VS Space Godzilla TV Commercial - YouTube ).
