Description A 3D realisation of MC Escher's infamous 'Relativity' piece -one that came to me in a dream about distorted clocks and stairs, and I was bending with them. This was the answer to a big problem I'd been experiencing for months now -artist block.

At this point in my life I still hadn't discovered my so-called 'niche' in the great stratosphere of design -a certain vein in all my artwork to hint to people that it's mine. Such as pointilism is to Seurat, the Australian Bush is to Streeton, or the female mystique is to Davinci. What was mine? What was my trademark?

Then it occurred to me that an artist doesn't need to have that strong 'individual streak' so apparent in all of their works. They would never evolve artistically, right? We can be multi-faceted.. explore many styles, materialise them through different approaches, through different doors in order for the artist to perhaps, understand the many faces and doors of their own soul? Nevertheless they are all linked and relative to eachother, driven by our desire to explore. Just like Escher's 'Relativity'...

I digress. Back to the piece: This project was also an experimentation with Radiosity; no textures, and just area lighting. I'm going to take the concept a bit further by using it as a theme for my multimedia portfolio -with this render being the splash page, and all the hidden doors and arches will take viewers into other pages.

oh!, i ones saw a movie when i was a little girl, and there was this other girl (in the movie) who walked around on stairs like these... (i think she was looking for her babybrother, and was at the same time chased by an gruesome man, i'm not sure of that though)
you don't happen to know what movie i'm talking about? (despite my vague description) i can't remember the name of it!

YES! that's the one! thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!
I have to watch it again! Just hope it's as good now as it was when i was about 4-6 years old!

Lol, you're welcome! XD
I hope you enjoy it...instead of having your mind plagued by Jareth...I CAN'T beleive he actually ended up in one of my dreams! My sister and I got a good laugh out of it, but it still erks me a tinsy bit...oh, and there's this hilarious fancomic called Roommates, in case you like that kind of thing. It has characters from different musicals, movies, and musical movies (XD), including Laberinth, Phantom of The Opera, Pirates of the Caribean (though oddly Jack hasn't made an appearance...oh well, it' still hiarious!) and various others (XD). The main characters are Jareth, Eric (POTO), Norington (POTC), *insert name I forgot...*, Sarah, and Christine (POTO). Then there's a spin off called Girls Next Door that's more of the girl's point of view, different art style but hilarious!

...

...did I get carried away again? Oh dear...

oh, I'm happy if I just manage to look through an entire movie without remembering all of the million other things i should be doing instead! But thanks for the tip! :D it sounded interesting, I have written down the title, hope I get some time soon!
Good luck with your dreams! ;)

I know what you mean! Jareth should be distracting enough...try not to look at his tights, his funky hair-do should be sufficient (if you're like me ).
You're welcome, I hope when you find the time you enjoy it!
Thanks, I'm gonna need it! XD

I love Eschers work and I really like this piece. It's really cool. I was wondering though, would it be possible to make a model of assentation Descension (the one with the stairs that goes up and up and up), nah, probably not, lol... Good work!!!
