Think i'll never get how to model stuff like this. I would be totally confused after a few Minutes. Good one

Amazing artpiece, I love the purity of the lines. As an Escher fan, I can say you've done a really great work (in fact I prefer that you didn't make the human figures, which always disturbed me in Escher's drawing).

haha, hate to admit it, but I have to agree with you, honestly I love pretty much all of his work, and have seen a lot of his work in real life, truly stunning work, but he has some human figures (in this one, but in a lot more 'impossible' images, like up and down (high and low) or the waterfall) witch I never liked! real funny to hear you say it, for I've thought it loads of times, but never said it

Escher rules

This is an awesome render of Escher's image

I too use Blender and have a few things up on DA, including two recent Tutorials.

Really awesome work. I use Blender myself and have some things up on DeviantArt, but I have a question. What kind of lighting did you use? I've seen this kind of lighting before but I can't seem to get it right.

I believe it was lit just by ambient occlusion. (Press F8 for the world buttons, it's there somewhere.) The grain is caused by by a low amount of samples. If you increase it, it will take longer to render, but will be less grainy.

OK, I see it. Thanks, I'm kinda getting tired of really sharp dark shadows. This is a big help.

A ofter better solution might be using buffered lamps. If you read a tutorial on how to use these guys, you'll see it will render maybe 10 times faster than using radiocity/ambient occlusion and gives nice soft shadows. I often still use buffered soft shadow lamps for they render incredibly fast and give nice effects.

Good luck pal

This is fantastic. The texture is right on, too. It looks like a soft pencil.

Thanks a lot.

Actually it's Blender's Ambient Occlusion with a bit lower resolution, but indeed done on perpose for I like the grain.

wonderful work and like the blue tones a lot
reminds me of some "trompe-l'oeil"

Why thanks mate. How come it reminds you of trompe-l'oeil if I may? I thought it was some kind of super-realistic painting style.

Aimelle In reply to SanderWit [2007-03-20 23:00:41 +0000 UTC]

I've read it can also be some kind of 'illusion of perception'. So there is an image looking a lot like yours (a drawing of stairs, never ending, or non-realistic because you couldn't walk on them from one to the other like it seems to, looking at it ). So your creation reminds me this , but can't find the image now... will send you the link if I find it I could have simply said an optical illusion !

Not a problem do let me know if you happen to find it I always love optical illusions!

By the way, you never mentioned you had such an incredible gallery with photography! I'm gonna check them all out soon, I'm really buzy at the moment. cool

The best of luck to you.

Awsome rendering, can't wait to see it textured if your doing that. If so, plan to do a detailed texture job, or more simple style like up and down? Either way, i'm sure it will be great. Escher was an awsome artist, and I love his works also. Glad you do such a great job on these, keep it up.

Do you know that place Escher drew where you can see the floor and the top at the same time? This piece often reminds me of that:

The only thing I can think of is... wasn't the original spatially impossible? I mean, not just in the sense of having doors and stairs upside down and sideways, but have stairs connect walls that could not, and things of that sort.

I could be wrong, though.

SanderWit In reply to joemc08 [2006-09-11 05:41:33 +0000 UTC]

No, I think this is one of the few that is fysically possible. It's pretty hard to get it just right, but it's not impossible. For excample this one [link] and this one [link] are impossible, but I'm gonna make 'em anyways, like this one: [link] .

Thanks a lot man. I know the position of the camera, lens size and the model itsselve isn't completely correct yet and especially the lighting still sucks, therefor it's a WIP, but I hope I'l get there sooner or later.
