Description Here is another render of my glass chess set. Kinda static and clean. But hey. Made with Blender, rendered with Yafray.

Very awesome work, SanderWit!!! I'm impressed. Did you follow any tutorials or what? I'd REALLY love to know how to do that. (especially the modelling of the pieces.)

Thanks pal! Nice to hear.

But no, haven't really used any tutorials though modeling the peaces was done with some knowledge learned in a tutorial I think. Just try out the spin tool (see the edit buttons or F9) and find out how it works yourself! It's not hard at all. More difficult ones like the horse or king were done with a base of a spinned model, than subsurfaced (see modifiers tab) and extruded to get a horse or king. A bit more tricky but you'll menage.

By the way, that test is really nice, the one from your signature. I'm not a believer but I find it really interestingly put into words, very cool indeed.

Be well.

Wow, I'll have to try that out. I knew that 3DS has a spin tool, but Blender is sounding better and better. ^_^ Plus, the price is great!

But yeah, I like that test too (obviously, or it wouldn't be in my sig). Too often is the message not put into words - it seems so vague. I know you said you're not a believer, but I hope you'll at least think about it. Eternity is too great to risk.

Take care,
MS

When you search for "blender 3d", all the best stuff seems to be yours. It's really hard to believe this isn't a real chess set. I'm just starting to learn Blender, so it's inspiring to see what can be done with it.

Thanks. This ons ain't that difficult though! Get some tutorials on making chess peaces and search the Yafray forum for info on lighting with Yafray. Good luck! Make sure to get an Elysiun (nowadays Blenderartists.org) account too! The place to be mate!

Take care and let me know if you need help.

Cheers

Glad you started using Blender. Make sure to get an Elysiun (nowadays Blenderartists.org) account and post your things there. The place to be.

Glad you like this peace. It's not that hard to do actually and may even be a good project to start with. There are some tutorials on makeing chess peaces (just make a side view of a peace and spin it in the top view with the F9 edit buttons!) and there are some on rendering with Yafray, this one was rendered with that.

Good luck and let me know if you need help.

Never done so before, but I'd love to help out. I'm a bit short in time at the moment, but if it doesn't need to be done at the end of the week, I'd love to help out. If you've got msn, witsander@hotmail.com is mine.

I tell you what... that Blender and YafRay isn't half bad considering that its a free program that anyone can download.

Been thinking about picking that up as well as learning Maya when I go to University.

Great image that... I've been making chess peices in Maya so this is some great inspiration.

Really nice colors of the chess peices. I think I would like to see a little bit less blur too although I wouldn't really know until seeing it. Maybe blurring the bg behind the chess board and keeping all the peices in focus. Just some observations, cool ass render anyway you look at it.

Hmm. I like the depth blur, adds a point to focus on, just would liked to see maybe a chair behind the table, as the backdrop seems to take away from the chess set, strangely from their not being one.? Not sure, but it looks good. Very realistic. Plus I LOVE chess.

Strange but I knew something like that we could render with the old DKB (bundled example) toolkit
The DKB was running under MS-DOS

Looks good, but I think it would be better if it was less blurry.
