Description
Never seen this kind of half-breed in high fantasy, so I figured I'd paint my own version. One part orcish and one part dwarven, a kind of short, angry and green fellow.I started this one as a doodle with a ballpoint pen. I ended up doing a more refined version of it and it was supposed to be my submission for an art contest. Unfortunately I found out I couldn't even enter the contest, so I decided to post it here.
The painting was done with acrylic paints, scanned and added a basic background in photoshop.
Edit: After many constructive comments about the background interfering with the actual character, I removed the photoshop created background and replaced it with a simple drop shadow. And added my nametag.

Awesome. I love how you do the mettalic colors. That guy must have grown up with one hell of a chip on his shoulder.

He is so adorable, in a weird way. Dwarven Orcs are just as dangerous as normal Orcs, only shorter and can headbutt far better. Lol

Wow, I love to see unusual half breeds! This guy is undoubtedly a black sheep in his family- no?
It looks great!

Perhaps the kind of guy who would pull your kneecaps off with his bare hands and shove them down your throat if you made a short joke. Very well-drawn, and quite an orginal idea too!

I bet he'd give you a proper ass-whooping if youd try to roll him. It's not like he's a joint or anything.
Thanks for the compliment.

Jeez.... I can't BEGIN to imagine the +Strength on that baby. O_O
Seriously, though. It's brilliant. Kudos on the creativity. People seem so hell-bent on staying inside of the box with high-fantasy now adays. I like mixing around with hybrids. Have you ever tried your hand at prehaps a Troll/Dwarf or an Ogre/Dwarf? Really mixing a Dwarf with any goblinoid would be awesome.

Nope haven't tried that one. Maybe I should give it a go. After all a troll is stupid enough to mate with anything and I mean Anything.
Thanks for the compliment.

I was just about the make a same kind of remark, but then I thought it best left unsaid. I now see you thought differently.
Troll-horse... and don't even get me started on the troll-giraffe.

No specific references. Just watched Lord of the rings way too many times. Oh and an anatomy book is a handy thing to have, not that I still know how to draw proper anatomy. Exaggeration is the key.

Rad. This is one of the better fantasy peices I'ver seen, especially because it isn't digital ('cept the background) and still has a great polished look about it.

Thanks. It's always good to keep up your skills in traditional methods and not rely on a computer all the time. I'll try to do something with the background since I've been getting so much complaints about it.

let me guess was it the World of Warcraft fanart contest? I like the concept, never seen such an idea and since I adore both dwarwes and orcs, I think this one is totally adorable
I think it should look better without background because you did the bg too detailed and dark, it distracts the attention with it's clearly visible digital source. I'd do the bg way lighter and less contrast to make the character pop up

You quessed right. I don't get it. Why are there only a selected few countries that can participate. I don't think it's fair. In addition the WoW sites won't feature my fan art and instead put a lot of more crappy pictures than mine in there. Go figure.

Technically amazing, n my opinion. I love the harsh light and great colors. Background seems just kinda..blah. though. It should go along with the image more..maybe a forest or jungle?

I agree. The background was just a quick last minute addition I whipped up just before posting. Maybe I'll do something with it later on.

GH-MoNGo [2007-03-08 13:23:50 +0000 UTC]
Excellent rendering, though I think your choice of a background somewhat drowns out the figure. The light in the upper left is too sharp and the texture overwhelms all the nice stroke work you put in this fellow's arms and clothing. It could also use a nice cast shadow below him to give him more of a sense of weight and solidarity.
Overall, nice work.

Thanks. The background was a bit of a last minute quick addition before I posted the picture. It's a tad sloppy I admit.
