Another Sonic Heroes pic! Unfortunately I didn't have room to put all of Team Heroes and Team Dark on there, so I settled for Sonic and Mekion/Shadow. I don't think I did a very good job on the desert background, because I drew and colored it without any reference, but it's tolerable.Edit: I wasn't happy with the background in this picture, so I added some layers and redid it. I found this wonderful Landscape Composition tutorial, and it gave me the clues I needed--things get lighter and bluer as they recede into the distance, the colors of the sky will be reflected in the rest of the background, and for heaven's sake, a sunset can't be BEHIND the rocks that are reflecting light from the foreground! So anyway. This is much more purple and much prettier, IMO. You can see the original here: [link]

I say that the background is better than the last one. I wish I could draw like that, but the only tools I have is a computer, an amateurish art program and a mouse [that's all.] You did great, NetRaptor! Have some cake.

Good job! I happen to think you did fine on the background.
Also, may I offer some advice? I'm going to be honest here, and as an artist I appreciate honesty, so I should hope you do too... I've seen a lot of your stuff, and I've noticed that your style hasn't changed the slightest bit in YEARS... And your sketches... They don't look like 'sketches'... All of your drawings look like you've never let the pencil part from the paper. You should try feeling out the lines by really sketching, or AT LEAST rounding your shapes. Plus, Sonic's eyes are more round, Knuckle's eyes don't connect (that's exclusivly the hedgehogs), and they all he FIVE fingers. I'm not going to tell you it's wrong... There is no wrong art, but I strongely suggest you try something new every once in a while and pick up inspiration and advice from other artists.
If you think I'm being arrogant... Please don't... -_- Anyway, don't look at my gallery... yet. I have not official characters up, so you have nothing to compare to...

P.S.: Again, I'm sorry about the Flux thing... I have no right to tell you what characters you should and should not use, and yes, I did eventually figure out that those characters were not from the comics, but fan characters and SatAM characters... I'm terrible...

I have tried other styles, but the pics aren't posted here. Those, along with my real art, I don't consider "Sonic", so I don't post them online. Who wants to see drawings of real animals, anyway? :-p

1. No problem! ^_^ I like a good, honest critique too.
2. I would like to see your drawings of real animals! (I draw things other than Sonic that I usually don't post either. Mostly dinosaurs, dragons, dogs, rabbits, and sometimes horses. I saw your anteater sculpture on you website, and I was really impressed! I could never do that with clay...)
3. That's not what I meant by 'other styles'. You can try drawing Sonic & co. differently than you usually do, I mean. Start from a different place, or expiriment with poses. Look at the official art, the games, and animations like Sonic X if you can.
I do this alot... Look at your work, and think... Are you 100% satisfied with it? So much so that you would absolutely hate to change it? Then look at an artist's work you may think is better than you/as good as you and/or the official art work of the same character. What do you like about the way THIS particular artist draws the character? If you still think your work is absolutly perfect, there's no need to move on with the process, but if you don't, continue... Now draw the character with your choosen picture (the one you thought was better/as good as yours) out in front of you. Do not copy the picture, but look at it every now and then to get an idea. When you are done, compare it with your old picture again. Then decide which one you like better. Don't copy the others person's style, just look for inspiration, you know? But if you are fully satisfied with your stuff don't bother. It's the artist's satisfaction that makes the work good.

My problem is that I'm drawing the Sonic characters exactly the way I like to see them done. I don't like them in any other style, and my style tries to mimic the official style as closely as possible. I can do "furry", but "furry" isn't "Sonic". The only characters I do in a more realistic fashion are my own. And lately I've just been doing pics of the official characters, hense the official art. I've noticed the official characters net more comments anyway, so why bother to post anything else? :-p My real art is over at my website.

Good... then I can get to what I wanted to say all along... You should look at the offcial art, and if that's what you're trying to making them look like, you aren't drawing them right... Sonic has five fingers, his eyes are wider and NOT pointed like Shadow's, and he only has two quills in his back (the tails is not a quill). These things are present in the new and old official art. Also, taking a better look at the all the other characters wouldn't hurt you.
I'm not a fan of 'furry' art either... ^-^

I think the background looks fine. You could have prehaps made the cliffs further back a bit darker, just so they look more further away.
And for some reason I can't stop staring at Sonic's expression. I keep looking at it, and I adore it. His pose looks like as if he's just landed on the rail, so maybe the race has just started.
And Mekion, man he looks deadly. The way you've positioned his quills makes him look wild and dangerous.
No art thief better swipe this, or else heads will be busted like watermelons to a hammer.

Looking at this again...it reminds me of the scene in FFX when everyone's grinding down the huge ropes into Bevelle.
...that is, if you know what i'm even talkin' about.

The background looks perfect to me. But I love Mekion's pose! He looks like he could kill Sonic.

The background is actually quite good; it reminds me of Badlands National Park somewhat.
I can see it now...Rouge suddenly veers over and slams into Sonic, knocking him off and sending him to a quick death...once he hits the ground, anyways.

Awesome NR! Just a couple things I happen to notice:
1. The desert background IS awesome! It's not too bad for something without ref!
2. Sonic's shoes.. he doesn't have soaps in Sonic Heroes. His shoes grind flat on them (wonder how he does it?
