I've been trying to brush up on my understanding of values lately. Here's some of the sketches I've done, just trying to make stuff look the way I want. Also I got a cheapy version of Corel Painter off Humble Bundle, and I've been trying to learn to use it again. I bought that program years ago and the disc got lost in a move. Argh. So here I am, buying it again.
Anyway, just been basically trying to learn new techniques and figure out how to apply them.

Ah, yes. This brings me back to Digital Color Theory class when I had to create monochromatic and analogous pieces of art using values to create depth and/or contrast. Good times.ย

Looks like you're messing with complementary colors in the light/shadows and I LOVE it (orange and blue).ย Makes pictures look far more dimensional than using neutrals for value. Love the misty atmospheric perspective in the second one too.

Yup!ย I remember in color theory class, our teacher banned us from using black paint and told us to make our shadows out of colors. Really changed the way I shaded things to this day!
