*shivers* All I can think is 'Are you my mummy?'
Too much Doctor Who, I suppose. Or the empty, staring eyes... *shivers again* Nice job at eliciting an emotional response in your viewers...

I'm glad you think it successfully elicits an emotional response. i sometimes wonder if my work is too hollow!

Awesome. Gas masks are a gas to wear, eh? Get it?
Bad pun is bad.
I have one, and I wear it sometimes for the hell of it
Anyway, like they said, great black-on-black. I never thought of how difficult that might be till now.

They are a gas indeed! black on black is mostly about spill control on your light sources which can be tricky at times but i think anyone is capable of figuring it out with a little time invested in what they're trying to achieve!

Is this a Doctor Who reference?
Anyway, the shot is hauntingly beautiful. The way that the black stands out on the black is simply amazing.

unfortunately it's not a reference to anything except some personal reflection on my struggle with asthma. i know that may sound cheesy but i am frequently looking for symbols that help me express this discomfort. i like your use of the word haunting that's definitely a good description for how asthma feels to me it's always lingering in the shadows waiting to attack and it is often frightening for sure.

Oh, then I apologize for my assumption. I don't have asthma myself, so unfortunately I can't empathize with you, but I can try to imagine your constant discomfort. Of course I wish you the best of luck and hope that your asthma will never do anything that goes beyond simple frightening.

No need to apologize, i realize that everyone who views work i create comes to it with their own background and perspective and i appreciate that everyone see's it in their own unique way. which is why my thought process behind the choice of subject hasn't been included in the description! It's also fascinating to me to see what relationships other people make between my work and other work, whether it be other photography, or paintings, or films. With a subject that is so universally symbolic it's not surprising to see there are a lot of different things people are coming up with!

This is impressive for a black on black shot. While everyone else seems to remember something else, this reminds me all too much of Mother War from My Chemical Romance's Black Parade.

i'm not familiar with that but i guess that's the beauty of artwork, everyone can draw their own connections and relate an image to their own perspective in life!

Love the single-color motif. It's like it's trying it's darnest to break out of what it already is, but in doing so is simply washed away in the dark infinities of eternity.

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers (and sisters)!
Except it's not really a small group--now fans of the original Prisoner, that's a small group. Fewer still who get it...

I have the same mask, but without the canister. Where did you find it?

neurophonix In reply to Leah-the-Red [2009-12-07 21:54:57 +0000 UTC]
It was at a thrift store of sorts and was actually a lucky find. though i've seen this mask selling on amazon and ebay, and a variety of other online stores. Look for the standard Israeli civilian gas mask and you'll turn up other masks like this one i believe.

Ah, yes. I should look for a canister... I've already screwed with the mask itself, though... It might not fit. Thanks, though! :3
