good shot. it is starnge though, the leaves behind the deer's right (our right) ear look almost hairy because of the leaves.

Oh wow, you were pretty lucky, eh? Great shot; the deer is pretty centered, which is usually something I try to avoid, but for this shot I think it looks amazing; it really gets that "just popped out of the bush" look you mentioned. Maybe it works because of that narrow depth of field it has? I'm pretty new at photography, but as you can probably tell, I have few ideas about things.

thanks I have quite a lot of upclose and personal deer photos in my gallery

Yeah centered subject is rarely the way to go, but for certain types of portrait shots of animals (or when shooting for magazine covers), you can't beat it Its all about decided whats right and making the most impact
