Description *1963*
A scene straight from the days of the Southern Region, but only on Sodor. North Western Railway (NWR) E2 (MkII) class 0-6-0T No. 1 "Thomas" stands at Tidmouth MPD alongside his (MkI) older siblings No. 19 (ex-W&S No. 24) "Eric" and 23 (ex-25) "Erwin" while a goods train from the harbour bound for the British mainland passes by, headed by K class 2-6-0 No. 13 (ex-BR No. 32337) "Wantail". This was the last ever photo taken of the three Sudrian E2s together in one place before Eric's withdrawal and sale to the National Coal Board (NCB) for service in Wales. Erwin would later be sold to industry in 1966 and was moved to the south of England that year, being named 'Marvellous' there. Luckily, all four still exist as Thomas and Wantail still operate on the NWR, Eric currently awaits restoration at the Churnet Valley Railway while Erwin is operational on the Bluebell Railway.
