Nearly 15 years later, the number of passengers travelling by air had increased while the once mighty liners began to sail with more crew than passengers, marking the end for the infamous names of ocean travel. In 1971, SS Barnier (sailing home from a voyage to South Korea) looks up in tears upon the site of one of Qantas' new Boeing 747-238s, finally realising what the older liner girls were saying was right. Two years later, she would be retired from service after 60 years of service but temporary returned to service to support humanitarian efforts following Cyclone Tracy.
