Description In the book "The Monster Under the Shed" (published in 2001), an unnamed blue 2-4-0WT was introduced and was supposedly "made up" by James to scare Thomas. Given the book was a parody of the old "monster under the bed" concept, this is explainable to teach younger children there's nothing to fear. Recently 'The Blue Snowplough' on YouTube took the concept and naming the unnamed well tank engine "Hawin", a Sudric word meaning "River" and a concept I kind of like (never seen many characters having Sudric names). With Part V expected to premier on Halloween, I decided to make this sprite in advance of my own take of Hawin.

Despite his TVS-style appearance, Hawin is very clearly based on the design of the LSWR Beattie 0298 class 2-4-0WT, which 85 were built between 1863 and 1875 by Beyer, Peacock & Co. and LSWR Nine Elms Works. Due to having curved splashers, I would say that Hawin must be of the earlier batches and is of Manchester origin (Nine Elms only built three of the class in 1872) and was sold second-hand to a Sudrian operator, most likely the Sodor & Mainland Railway (S&M) when the class was originally being withdrawn between 1886 and 1899, hence him being named "Hawin".

Naturally, I looked for the most realistic Beattie Well Tank base and found one by The-Station-Pilot and began work. I altered the bunker to seem close to the TVS-like Trainz model and the illustration from 2001 but with a realistic flare. Removed was the back of the cab wall and the vacuum brake pipes (there are many depictions of Hawin with vacuum pipes but some show him without them and I went for that. Plus, it just looked right). I finished it off with the same blue and red lining I used with my Thirlmere Thomas and added a builder's plate to the front splasher. One alteration I did do with the original base was remove the reverser from the left side to the right to try and make my take on Hawin a little more unique.
