Description
"On 21st July 1959, a confrontation between the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) and an Australian liner occurred. That day, the Blue Top Liner SS Barnier (registered in Sydney, Australia and one of three Barnier-class liners) sailing through the Strait of Taiwan via international waters on a homeward southbound journey to Sydney via Southeast Asia after leaving South Korea. According to the PLAN and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the liner had violated China's sovereignty by entering Chinese territorial waters, which has been proven false many times following the confrontation.

As the liner headed south, the destroyer PLANS Anshan was sent out to confront the vessel but it appeared the "unprepared" liner was prepared for it as the crew fixed a large white canvas with a message of "choice words" at the CCP and the PLAN to note it had every single right to transit the Strait of Taiwan without being allowed, due to being in international waters. Despite a warning given to the Blue Top Line to change the course for voyages to Japan and South Korea, vessels from the company (mainly Barnier) still transited the strait with a message on white canvas on the side of the ship facing the mainland, with Barnier's always some "choice words" towards the Communist-run country.
