I decided to make an inertia dampening field generator from the TOS era.

The technology is based on speculative UFO technology where the green tubes are filled with mercury that somehow generates antigravity or something. I don't know.

But I decided to work with that instead of a standard gravity generator. The IDF is on 2 points multi-axis gimble so it can direct the IDF in a specific direction. When there's an intended direction the ship wants to go, the IDF's A.I. then redirects the rings so it has a relatively smooth transition when the ship makes an expected maneuver.

But unexpected hits like an attack would explain why they still get knocked down because the A.I. can't keep up and has to compensate.

Speaking of A.I., this was made WITHOUT A.I.

The green glow in the rings is because of the mercury as the spectrograph says it would be greenish in colour, so that's why it's green.

During the refit, the more mechanical IDF generators, like this one, were probably replaced with more solid ones where the red light rods somehow generates the counter gravity forces to dampen out the inertia that we've seen through out Star Trek.

I figure during the Enterprise era, they probably had an IDF/gravity generator combo where when the IDF is in this configuration, it just generates gravity. But when the ship fires impulse engines, they boost the power with capacitors and the ring rotates so the gravity prevents the few from flying backwards at full impulse -- let's say 5G's at the time -- to pull the crew forward. But they became separate systems say after the Earth/Romulan wars when if gravity went out, so did the IDF -- and vice versa.

EDIT: I forgot to mention I wanted to be roughly the same size as the IDF generator as seen here in light blue:

But having it more centralized afterwards would make a LOT more sense.

EDIT 2: The origin for pivots in the rings are at 0,0,0, and the centre of the rings are 1.2m above the floor. So making it easy to rotate it.
