Description "Back Cover"...hur hur.

Please pardon my punnery.

This is my latest entry for Jon Foster's Cover-to-Cover class. This week's assignment was to give him a cover for Moby Dick. He liked the Queequeg tat idea best, and while I was not so jazzed at the beginning, I'm actually really pleased with how it came out. (for those not in the know, one of the main characters of Moby Dick is Queequeg...a cannibal harpooner with tattoos all over his body)
I know most people watching me are probably hoping for something a little less dry and more fantastical. I'm sorry this isn't it
I am doing comic work and other less academic work, but unfortunately it's nothing I can post at the moment. Hopefully there's an audience out there for Book Covers
Enjoy!

Nothing can hold me back.

But it needs time till I can tatoo it because
IΒ΄m just a poor little student and money doesnΒ΄t
grow on trees.

You infer that this is 'dry' and 'not fantastical'. Sir, I beg to differ.

If I hadn't tried already, this would make me want to read the book.

This is amazing. Thank you for this, very much. I have been a lover of this book since I was 12, wishing to 'break' the reading points system at my school by blowing it all on one book. That book was Moby Dick and I read it four times that year and read it every year since.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
And yes, Queequeg's tats are the supreme.

...as an English major who studied under a die hard Melvillian, I have to say that is possibly the most AWESOME cover concept for Moby Dick possible.

I would buy a copy with that cover.

...and I still have my copy from class...

!ou did a very good job on the curving of the back and how it would effect the tattoo. Good idea!

Heh. I love that book. In fact, I think the movie (the sixties Gregory Peck version) is the reason I'm into designing tattoos. I saw it when I was about six, and after seeing Queequeg for the first time, I proceeded to cover every square inch of my body with black Sharpie. My folks really loved THAT one...

What a fantastic idea for a book cover! Wonderfully executed too, good job making the tattoo follow the contours of the back. Love how this looks like a scrimshaw design too, very appropriate. I’m faving this!

Goodness, dry was definitely not the first word that came to mind when I saw this. It's such a captivating and beautiful image! Great job on making the tattoos really rest on the skin, and the warm colors are super lovely~

I'm also strangely fascinated by the whale's teeth, for some reason. *___*;;
