And now we come to the end of the semester...the last assignment for Shanth Enjeti's 'Character Creation': Take and tweak two of your previous designs and place the two characters in an environment. This felt SO GOOD. I am SO excited to be doing full pieces again, I can't even tell you. It's been so long just doing head-on characters that I have really been longing to get my teeth into something more compositional and narrative. (Next semester will rock for those reasons). Anyways, I'm really pleased with how this came out...it was a long fight to get it there through the conceptual sketch phase (up on my blog: [link] ) But I'm really happy with the outcome. I happen to like it with the text (slapping that title on at the very end was extremely satisfying), but a textless version will be up on my blog as well! I'm not sure what the future holds for Kojo, besides punching monsters naturally, but I really hope y'all enjoy this piece! I will miss this class dearly...Related content

And well, I think you should feel glad about your assignment, you've worked a lot and you've created many original characters during this semester! At my school we spend like 3 months doing the same piece, that's just so frustrating...I always read your "artist's comment" and I wish I was in the same class, haha!

The class is pretty awesome, I won't lie...but the exercises are pretty straightforward. Really the thing is just to keep practicing and grinding away. Spending too long on one piece can kill it, though...I wouldn't know what to do with myself!

WOW!! This is truly beautiful!! Love the light colored linework, and the color palette, makes it almost look like a japanese woodblock print, but not
the sea of grass looks beautiful too, how it softly makes an outline around the characters..

That's great to hear! I was actually thinking of this like a Japanese print...funnily enough I set out to try and get something of that vibe, but vowed (not always wise) not to look at any actual Japanese prints and see where I could get on mt own steam

this looks really cool. you're pretty adept at them fieldy misty backgrounds. i didnt notice the marionette sticks on the monster before, what are they for?

I do all the lineart by hand (pencil and then ink with a Nikko G Nib) and then scan it in and paint it up!

I was thinking about how many different Christmas deviations there are this time of year, and I think the more ancient winter holidays don't get enough love. Think you could design a Spirit of Saturnalia? (or the ancient, forgotten winter holiday of your choosing!)

Sorry for the long delay...I've been thinking, but I haven't come up with much. I'm actually thinking I could really stand to color something sometime soon, if you wanted to do the lines. Gr...Idunno. Something in the snow, most definitely. I've been reading the Dark is Rising, so I'm in this whole snowstorm/little british child/dragon kind of place. Or could do a really burly frozen-tundra viking fighting something piece. You know, like a giant frostwyrm or something
Or, it might be nice to do an in-the-cold-looking-in on warm fireflight piece. Frozen traveller/dark and wintry stranger/idunno?
