I sketched Rai a while back , but never touched it again. Β Recently, I got Photoshop, so I decided I'd color it in there to get the feel for Photoshop.It went fairly well, but I still don't know what I'm doing with it. Β I'll slowly figure the program out~

Back when I was in elementary school, I absolutely loved bugs. Β I drew them nonstop. Β I still rather enjoy carapaces. Β For this one in particular, I had to look at many reference pictures. Β It was fun.

Do you think you'd ever post a study or anything on how you do them, though? I've been looking and something about how they work and how to draw them eludes me :/

I don't usually post studies or anything, but I might think about it for insects. Β I do have some really handy biology books laying around that probably go into insect anatomy. Β If they can tell me how jellyfish reproduce (it's very strange), then it should tell me how insects work!

But holy carp are they complex to color. Β o.e Β I mean, I could have picked something simpler, but even then, can't find a decent anatomy ref of all the legs/fins on the underside. Β XD

I know that feel. I make detailed Spore models of various characters and 90% of the time I wind up having to fake it on the back end of the model because people don't bother to make good back refs half the time e_o
But I'm getting a bit offtopic now. Mantis shrimp are really complex creatures and a lack of refs is indeed the secret 10th circle of hell so yeah I can imagine

Ahhhhhh, yes, I've seen it. Β Funny story, before I saw all the hype on the internet about them, I made Rai because a friend had told me about the awesome little mantis shrimp. Β I put a lot of research into it, so when I started seeing the stuff, I was all like "lol yep, that's the mantis shrimp for you."
