ah, not true! CA law prohibits the selling of a hedgehog. You can still purchass one out-of-state and rear it in CA. :]
The law itself was made because hedgehogs are considered 'exotic' animals that require more patience and concern than a normal household pet to care for; it ensures that people who go to the effort to own one won't turn around and throw it in a shelter if they get bored with it.
