this one is earmarked I think for development as a 3D sculpt later this year.

That is so cool. Reminds me of a Spinosaurus, Pterosaur, and and alien. Which two of those you already said it is.

You're welcome! Have you drawn the rest of the animal? Is it a "bird of prey" kind of alien?

hmmm, I recall doing some doodles of it a long time ago, but no I don't really have a body for it. If I remember correctly it was sort of 'Pterosaurish'

Makes sense! it looks like "pteranodon meets ornithocheirus" a bit

I love it, but I have one question. What's the creature's main way of perception? Is it able to see like we do (Colors), or is it able to see infrared-ultraviolet spectrums? Are those bubble things at it's sides like compound eyes? Sorry for all those questions, but I find the concept intriguing.

Nicksketch In reply to LilCthulhu [2011-01-04 01:30:06 +0000 UTC]

well, I imagined them to be a form of renewable compound type of eye, each small bubble resolves a quite low grade image but many overlapping views improve the detail etc. colour spectrum I have no idea, I think movement is more important for these guys, and the ability to define edges of objects. the eyes grow from specialised skin cells, and are eventually shed, to be replaced by the next set.

Like a sharks teeth

Or like a reptile's skin. Really like the idea. So I figure they see in grey tones? Or just black and white? Or maybe they see like a mix of an insect and chordate eye?
Dosen't matter. It's quite a nice conept. I would like to see more about it's homeworld or something.

Nicksketch In reply to LilCthulhu [2011-01-04 09:28:56 +0000 UTC]

yes, I figure these individual eyes are a bit like pigment cup ocelli of spiders. but moult, all said and done they look cool

the home-world stuff is a long way off, perhaps I@ll have time for it when I retire

Where are the eyes?! XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nicksketch In reply to NImportant [2011-01-03 14:52:23 +0000 UTC]

all those dimples on the bulges either side of the head are a kind of compound eye. I love this idea, it's kind of a recurring theme with my creatures
