Description

Moni felt a little odd in the elegant dress and ornate shoes, they were neither her regular comfortable quirky clothes, nor the type of intentionally sexier clothing she chose when she did want to attract attention. The white dress clung to her body, but whispered over her skin like the exquisite silk it was, and the sheer top of the dress gave the appearance that she might slip out of it at any moment. Along with the blue hair ornaments and jewelry, she felt like she was dressed in cool sea spray and droplets rather than a gown.
On the Lady's advice, She had found it in the former Dorado's closet... her closet, she reminded herself. It was hers now. It hung among several other dresses and gowns, but most of them were too big in the bust for her to wear. She had tried on this one, and the hang of the "neckline" almost worked. Moni had brought to the Lady, who had taken it away and then brought it back the same day, and it somehow fit perfectly. She figured it was another magical aspect of this place.
  As she had slipped it on, the very subtle smell of jasmine seemed to cling to the silk, and Moni had sat on the bed and buried her face in the soft fabric. Was this what she had smelled like? She slipped momentarily into ancient memory, into a ballroom on another world, with people from other planets dancing and talking, the view outside of an icy moon breathtaking. The former owner of this dress was observing it while listening to another diplomat make some grand claim or another at her, and she looked off to the side, to a small entourage of who Moni knew were other long-ago Constellation Senshi. As always, she wanted the past Dorado to focus more on them so she could figure out who they were, but her vision turned back to the diplomat who became too friendly and slipped his hand on her waist, causing the former Constellation to stiffen. Just as she was about to respond, a hand shot out and removed the offending appendage from her body, and some low words were murmured over her head she could not hear, but she was assured they were not exactly friendly. Again, she just wanted to look at the person, but the cloud of thought was dissipating.
Moni snapped out of the flashback, and shook her head. Another triggered memory in this place... well she'd try to analyze it more later to find out who she had been allies with in her former life. For now, she placed the blue jewelry onto her hair and applied minimal makeup. Deciding she looked as upscale as she was likely to get, she headed out of her suite and towards the ballroom. She passed a few other constellations, making a conscious effort not to let her face settle into its natural "resting bitch face" she wore in public when she didn't want to be approached. Everyone looked amazing, and she accepted a few compliments as best she could, seeking out one of her friends. She couldn't find Catori or Lan, so she assumed they were not here yet. She hoped they hurried, as Moni hated standing around looking awkwardly. She needed to look awkward in company, damn it.
  She moved over to the raised dais that the Lady of the Stars was seated at and dipped her head slightly in respect. The tall elegant woman held out a hand to her, beckoning her near.
"Elmonica, you look stunning in that gown." The Lady smiled in a wistful way as she remembered saying similar words to another Dorado. The difference, Moni knew, was while that woman had passed away so long ago, to the Lady of the Stars' perspective, it had been only couple years ago that she had seen her. Moni's eyes welled up a bit and she blinked back the uncharacteristic tears and smiled back.
"Thank you, my Lady, for helping me with the dress, I didn't have anything appropriate to wear, so it's a treat." She held her hand with a squeeze and was beginning to feel more confident.
  After speaking for a few minutes, Moni moved on to avoid monopolizing their leader. She finally spotted a friendly face, and made a beeline over to Cordy, the beautiful woman that Moni had found was just about as nerdy as she was, and thank goodness, also very science literate. She knew she could have a good conversation with her. Of course she looked stunning, which she immediately informed her of. Before they could start discussing anything substantial, she noticed Les half-hiding behind a column, trying to look non-nonchalant but also not be seen from the other side of the room. Moni ambled over and peered up at him and then followed his gaze across the room where a couple of female Constellation Senshi were appearing to be searching for something.
"Laying low, Alley Cat?" Moni whispered up at him, playing along for a minute with his need to not be spotted. Les looked down and then over at his sister and frowned.
"Don't blow my cover, Fishstick," he replied trying to waive her off.
Moni looked over at Cordy and smiled a devious smile at the man's sister. She raised her voice a little, "Fishstick, huh? Well, you know I bet those girls are real sweet. And you're always so smooth with the ladies, so I better introduce you." She started to move out of the column's shelter, when Les scooped her back in.
"Fine, Squirt, fine. Sorry for the name. I just really don't need to be swamped by teenagers again, okay?" He looked a little put upon. Moni could understand what it was like to be pursued when she didn't want to.
"Okaaay I won't toss you to the kittens. There's a price though!" Moni's devious look was back and Les looked suspiciously at the orange haired imp.
"What is it?"
"You have to dance this next dance with me. I'll be your knight in scale armor and fend off the teenies for you!"
Cordelia hid a giggle at her brother's appeal to her to stop this, until Moni made her promise the following dance after her brother.
