Our Insectarium has large displays of pinned moths and butterflies. I appreciate being able to see these beauties at close quarters, while at the same I'm time saddened by the fact that what were once beautiful living creatures have been reduced to pinned corpses hung up for display. Your painting conveys to me that sense of combined sadness and awe. The contrast between darkness and light is very effective, given that moths are attracted to light and are often burned by it. Beautiful image.

I think this is the strongest moth piece I've seen from you. It manages to convey motion yet the spacing and scale evokes pinned insects as you mention above. The moths with torn wings are interesting because to me it tells the story of them trying to escape from their pinned configuration.

This is amazing. I have a hate/love-relationship with moths, I hate them in real life but find them very interesting at the same time and like to see them in art. I like how the piece is very balanced between light and darkness.

I never thought someone could capture a moth so well as you have. They're so ugly yet charming in a creepy sort of way and the style and brush strokes illustrate that perfectly! It also reminds me of pinned insects, and that somehow someone messed up on it.

Unique and interesting.

Thanks I'm glad you saw exactly what I was going for in the painting...I had been looking at a lot of pinned insects before doing the study, and it's pretty amazing how intricate the layouts for pinned insects usually are...
I guess this one is a combination of live and pinned moths...
