Since I first layed hands on the K5 I was amazed by the night-time capabilities of it if handeled right. I just never got the opportunity to release it's full potential and I guess this shot has the least light pollution I've captured with it so far* and I really like how it turned out. The Saxony Switzerland is a fairly unpolluted area as it seems, at least if you're aiming eastward. There is still some light from neighbouring towns and villages but not enough to block out the light of the milkyway completely. So this is my very first milkyway shot. Can't say that I wasn't uberly excited taking this shot. I sat about 3 hours next to the ~50m chasm you can see on the right which made me really nervous over time and I had to calm down fighting my vertigo and telling myself the shot will be worth it and I wasn't mistaken.

It's a composite of 3 images; one for the foreground and two for the sky (one for the softer gradient and one for the sky ifself) taken over a timespan of 1 1/2 hours. JanPusdrowski and I really got lucky on our last evening (and also pre-sunrise) with no clouds in the sky and the moon not in the frame yet. So there may be another star shot in the pipeline for later upload.

*maybe the coastal shots in Portugal are comparable.
