Description This image is yet another from 'Utopia' the world of my creation. This is The Engine or The Engine Godess as the inhabitants of the Tower call her.

"In the beginning of the Tower history, The Emperor had filled all of its levels with wonders beyond compare, only surpassed by his ever growing imagination. But they were empty and he felt alone, even after a long time had passed since his Empress had left him. So, he started building creatures to fill the worlds he had forged; but these beings had not the capacity or the blessing of real 'life', and they were mere objects waiting for the commands of their creator. And the Emperor found this very sad... So he built something entirely different: The Engine. This was to be its aid in the creation of souls for its automaton children.
After long labours and sleepless nights SHE was born. For in the process of creating The Engine, The Emperor had instilled life, unknowingly, into her and she woke up with a mind and a soul of its own: the very first 'life' the Emperor had sparked.
From the point of her birth and onwards, The Engine grew ever the more wise and independent. And she was devoted to the Emperor and loved him as a father; and she swam the endless voids of 'magic' (the nether-realm that manifests through black pits of nothingness) that not even The Emperor can tread, looking for the pieces that will give life and soul to its creations.
It is so, that every creature living in the Tower owes their spark, their essence and soul to The Engine, for it was she who looked for them and delivered them to the Emperor, who incarnated them.
She is to be found deep in the very roots of the Tower, near the Unknown Levels, and has become a legend, and a whisper of might and power beyond imagination. For she is connected to the very mainframe of the huge monolith. Some say that she knows were The Emperor rests, and when he will return from exile. But very few have ever seen her: merely a glimpse of a hand stretching out with another soul found in the dark nothingness."

Enjoy!

The piece itself is excellent, but the story to go with it really makes it one of my favorites.

For some reason, so much of what I've read lately is dark, grim, and cynical. The story of the Engine is mystical and beautiful, and it fit the picture very well. Nicely done.

I really think you have a solid story here. I'd really love to get my hands on a copy when you get it out.

Cool beans, man. Have you ever thought about posting something about going through your proccess. I'm getting some markers soon, and I'd like to know how to use them, as silly as that sounds.

Hey guys! Thanks for the comments and kind words towards this illustration. I'm really pleased with it too...
And yes, i'm doing something with this story: i'm publishing the first part of 'Utopia' as a graphic novel next year in the US; and hopefully, (if it sells appropriately and well) i may be able to do many more...

Until soon
