Description
Happy Thursday, folks! The Dark Millenium wouldn't be such if it weren't for the direct involvement of the Adeptus Mechanicus' Priesthood manufacturing and overseeing the development of the Imperium's technology from their stronghold on Mars. Granted, they go a bit differently about it than we would, but who hasn't prayed for an object to keep functioning?
I've always been a huge fan of the Mars Priesthood because they embody the essence of what the grim darkness of the far future is about. Where Space Marines are the pinnacle of a dystopian mankind bent on ruling the Galaxy, the Adeptus Mechanicus is a physical manifestation of the intellectual darkness that rules the far future. Chanting, praying zealots devoted to maintaining the status quo and correct functioning of machinery they're barely able to understand or repair anymore, adding more and more metal to their flesh in an attempt to gain the favor of the fabled Machine God, the Omnissiah.
With this piece I continued to practice what I've been challenging myself to grasp for a few weeks now: to pack as much detail as possible, without sacrificing the whole of the image or making it utterly incomprehensible. Thus, a lot of lighting and careful coloring has to be implemented, which I think is yielding some very cool results. Of course, it doesn't hurt that the Priests of Mars bear my favorite color on their robes
I hope you enjoy as usual and see you tomorrow!
Nic.-

The measure of WARHAMMER 40K is this; in any other Sci-Fi setting this would probably be an Iconic Villain - in the Imperium of Man this might well be the local equivalent of an Office Handyman!

To be fair, now the fluff is kinda weird in how mechanicus operate, at times they show as competent tech guy who have a tendecy of keping secret and very anal about it(think SOPA act but up to eleven...like always) other they have a bunch of zealots who cant dont shit on their on
But anyway, I kinda liked, more the utility belt that make him more down to earth(so th speak) not bad, not bad at all

Gracias, como siempre, amigo. Y si, concuerdo en que el Mechanicum es siempre bastante oscuro en sus designios, lo cual lo hace más interesante ciertamente.

Great job with the details in this piece! I like the subtle color scheme of the metallic segments, with just enough of a ruddy hue to give off the impression of age without going over the top. From a lighting stance, the axe is also pretty impressive, as well as the glints across the lenses of the mechandrite energy weapons.

Our Devastator's got the same servo-mounted plasma guns. He's also the next best thing we have to a Techmarine.
And a notorious team-killer.

Now there is a Techpriest for you! You're quite right, they are a pretty awesome aspect of the Dark Millennium, and the game too. I've always wanted to add at least one to my collection.
Seeing this, I am now reminded that I should do that. With all the new parts that come from the new Skitarii sets, I've been pondering hard about a conversion for my own personal Techpriest. This gives me a few ideas. XD

I love this--AdMech are one of my favourite parts of the setting. Although, based on the novels, I tend to have a more complicated view of them. I see them as basically Pythagorean, willing to develop designs and do basic research (albeit slowly, with a _lot_ of bureaucracy and strange religious criteria involved), but always reaching for an idea of perfect order that they believe is revealed (to the extent we have them) in ancient human designs.

Oh, I think they're some of the most complex bits in the WH40K lore indeed; the most interesting fact being that they're not actually subservient to the God-Emperor, but rather have an alliance with the Imperium, which could be broken at any minute, thus making the whole thing very murky.

Speaking of which, what's the real deal with them, anyway? Some stuff claim that Plasma Guns are lostech, treated as relic weapons, their means of manufacture lost to the ravages of time. And yet these aren't all too uncommon in the arsenals of the Astartes and Sororitas. Even the Imperial Guard have them as anti-armour weapons alongside Meltas and Krak (though of course, these run second to Lascannons. Do I understand correctly?) Also, if they're so old and still working, that means some core principles of this tech are actually sound and good. The original specs were lost? IS it really HERETEK to activate the safeties, disconnect the ammo feeds... and take apart some sample Plasma Guns in order to analyze the inner workings and reconstruct said specs? Pretty sure, though, that it would be considered HERESY to requisition some of those archeotech weapons that some nobles or Inquisitors or TechMagi are hoarding and similarly dissect them to learn their secrets and perhaps apply those to improve current tech. And all the more HERETICAL to do the same with, oh, Tau Plasma-tech, seeing as how they're slinging plasma much more efficiently and much less self-destructively. Do I understand correctly, your honour?
Furthermore, Plasma Guns for a long time have been infamous for overheating and exploding on a bad roll. But in the latest edition, it only has the Overheats rule. Drop it if it gets hot, and nothing else. What is this? Hints at actual improvement? And set in the mechanics, at that?

NicolasRGiacondino In reply to Neshi-Farfarer [2016-10-04 15:17:32 +0000 UTC]
Well, technically all of the Imperium's technology is archaic and prone to failure, except for some items here and there of which the whole plans have been recovered. That doesn't mean that there might be thousands of certain weapons running from the times of the Heresy, such as plasmas and so forth. We have to remember that the Chaos Space Marines coming out to rage their Black Crusades are clad in Heresy armor and that looks to be working quite well Imperial tech was much more robust and lasting back in the day and the fact that the Techpriests treat it with such devotion and zeal might make it work a little further than it was meant to.
I definitely don't think the Magos are allowed to open up a machine to find its inner workings. Mostly they repair it as well as they can with what they have.
