A wonderful image. The weariness from the subjects, who obviously live very hard lives, as well as the marks of time and a lifetime of hardship and weariness, are very touching. One can imagine the multitude of sources from this weariness, as the problems of India do not stop at poverty - there is the horrible treatment of women, in special elderly women and widows, violence, the awful living conditions in wich more than 80% of the people are forced to live, etc. I don't even think this was intentional, but the splendor of the clothes of the subjects, even though they are miserable - and it is true for most of the times when the theme is India - gives a somewhat ironic, sarcastic feel. These people tend to be very religious, and believe it is their duty to simply accept the inevitable hardships and sufferings of life, cheerfully, as it's going to be better in the next life.... yet at the same time religion itself helps to keep things that awful, preventing any change.

Thanks Doro - yes, a sharper capture of the woman in front would have been preferable, but she wasn't about to pose for me! It was one of those moments to just take the shot and hope for the best... thanks for the !!
