Description Technically it's kind of a cutscene/prequel thing but you get the idea!

First part of Margin. (sorry it's kind of short!)

Next part coming sometime in the near future.

intriguing way of bringing reader in, nice visuals and just interesting way of story telling.

do you happen to have nintendo ds? because there is this game called '999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors' and this story youre telling reminds me of the way this game is formatted with the narrative, it's also a unique game.. this reminds me of it, if you have time definitely check it out.

My only suggestion is to allow the user to advance the slide with the arrow keys. But really nicely done! yay

Intriguing opening, but I wouldn't have so many clicks. It's annoying to have to click for every little action. Figure out what's necessary, or what would make a good pause in the story, and then delete the extraneous.

NightMargin In reply to moonyelloweyes [2012-08-23 04:10:46 +0000 UTC]

What do you mean by "clicks"? like the sound that the buttons play? or the buttons themselves?

I can easily disable the sounds, but I'm not sure if I can take away the buttons in a visual novel?

Thanks for the feedback!

moonyelloweyes In reply to NightMargin [2012-09-03 07:01:42 +0000 UTC]

I mean the number of times I physically have to click the mouse. I shouldn't have to push the button as many times as you have in this chapter. A lot the smaller actions can be connected under one click instead of divided up among several.

NightMargin In reply to moonyelloweyes [2012-09-03 07:26:57 +0000 UTC]

ooh, any recommendations on how I can do that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

moonyelloweyes In reply to NightMargin [2012-09-09 04:56:46 +0000 UTC]

Just look for series of actions you can string together, like a series of small camera moves or small actions that shouldn't need clicks in-between. It's up to you how to group them, but as director and editor, it's all about how you see you project being seen by the audience.

NightMargin In reply to moonyelloweyes [2012-09-10 06:31:24 +0000 UTC]

ooh I see what you mean now!

I've actually been trying to figure all that intricate actionscript stuff with little success, if you can recommend any good resources on the subject matter I will be forever in your debt

moonyelloweyes In reply to NightMargin [2012-09-12 06:17:22 +0000 UTC]

Google, my friend, and YouTube as well. There are lots of free tutorials everywhere. : )

Oh believe me, I have scoured the earth for all kinds of visual novel related tutorials to little avail. You know how you're looking for that one very specific thing and it's never there? Like for the moment I'm actually more worried about the REALLY basic stuff like syncing multiple audio files, manual panning, and text effects. (I've actually found a way to do some pretty cool text effects but the setup process was pretty messy so that's a bummer!)
how do people code entire games in flash
how do people code
how do

moonyelloweyes In reply to NightMargin [2012-09-12 23:47:12 +0000 UTC]

Have you looked for the tutorial under a more basic name? Maybe what you're looking for is in a more Flash 101 type tutorial.

Woah... I love the beginning-of-video-game feel to it, with the Protagonist, and the speach box at the bottom... And the feeling of curiosity, learning, but not minding that you don't know all of what's happening... fantastic!! And it's all so beautiful, that cold, bright world...

The music is so chillingly beautiful. I don't feel scared listening to it, but it's haunting. Powerfully dark, yet simple and magical.
