Description Dragon!Reader x Hunters!Nordics – (Norway’s Ending: Dragon)

Chapter 15:  A Fate Worth Living For

Note:  Okay, so this is what I was speaking of when I meant using the same intro for individual characters.  Basically this will be how Norway’s last chapter will start as well, but I would like to know if you guys like this idea or you’d like me to create a whole different intro.  The intro is the same till you see a ‘*’

The days went steadily along as you slowly recovered from your near death experience.  You were healing slowly, but still a bit faster than most other people.  The wounds did leave behind scars no matter what spell Lukas tried to cast over them, but honestly you didn’t mind them.  Sure they might show up on your scales, some turning lighter or darker, but at least you were alive.  A few battle scars didn’t bother you as much as it did everyone else.

Everyone took turns looking after you, changing your bandages until your wounds had closed over, and feeding you.  All except Lukas, but you didn’t ask questions.  Though you did want to know what was up with him.  You didn’t like the feeding part, and after the first few days you finally forced them to let you feed yourself.  You attempted to get out of bed a few times, only for Tino to somehow show up and force you to lay back down.  You tried to convince him you were fine, but he wouldn’t have any of it.

So here you were, lying in bed and practically tucked into bed enough that you could barely move.  You had a frown on your face as Tino brought in your dinner.  Your mouth literally drooled at the smell of the stew.

Tino laughed at your funny expression, “Hungry, (Name)?”

You nodded and attempted to remove your arms from their confinement.  No luck.  Tino came to the side of the bed, and you knew what he was gonna try.

“Don’t even think about it Tino.  I can feed myself.  Now let me out of these blankets.”

“If I do that you’ll try to get up again.”

“It’s been about a week.  I’m sure I’m fine to move around.  Besides, I’ve dealt with worse before you guys came here,” you countered.  You had actually gotten your right hand free, and now you were releasing you other hand.  After it was undone, you quickly snatched up the bowl and spoon from Tino and proceeded to eat.

“So good~” you moaned as the hot stew melted in your mouth.  This stew never got old no matter how many times you ate it.  It was just that good.

The others watched you eat in silence, though Tino couldn’t help but giggle at your pleased smile.  He was pleased that you were feeling much better, and that your wounds were healing up.  Everyone was worried about you, however it was Lukas who was more worried than anyone else.  Tino knew that Lukas blamed himself for letting you go when everyone told him it wasn’t.  Lukas felt even worse when you came back gravely injured, and Tino heard him vow not to let to happen again.  It had been three days after you woke up that Lukas had locked himself away in his tavern room.  He didn’t even let Emil in when he called him ‘big brother’.

Something was up, and Tino knew you sensed something amiss too.  Which is why he’s keeping such a close eye on you.

Emil and Matthias had come into the room…well more like Matthias came bursting into the room.  You had jumped slightly, almost dropping your bowl in the process, as Matthias began talking loudly.

“Hey ya, everyone!  How ya doing, (Name)?  Still stuck in the bed?” The last part was a tease, causing you to glare at him.

“I’m doing fine, and if Tino wasn’t here I’d jump out of bed and strangle you.”

“Hahahaha!  You sound just like Norge.”

That peaked your interest, “Now that you mention it, where is Lukas?”

“He’s locked himself up in his room, and won’t let anyone in,” Emil answered. “The tavern keeper said they deliver his food to him, but he doesn’t allow them in his room apparently.”

This worried you greatly.  Something was either wrong or Lukas had a secret he didn’t want anyone to know about.  Tino, who didn’t want you to strain yourself, put his hand on your shoulder.  It was a very gentle touch as he knew both of your shoulder wounds were highly sore.

“Don’t worry, (Name).  He’s probably still upset with himself about everything.  He likes to dwell on things like this alone, so that he doesn’t worry us.”

“But he is worrying me,” you countered.  “He’s been in that room since after I woke up.  It’s not healthy and he’s doing the opposite and is making us worry more.”

Everyone was quiet until Matthias spoke up again, “Aww, let Norge stay in his room.  He’s just gonna miss out on an awesome story night.”

“Story night?” everyone asked.

“Yeah, we can all tell awesome and heroic stories.  Of course I doubt any of yours are as heroic as mine.”

You just rolled your eyes at him as he began to go on about his many adventures with the other hunters.  He left out the dragon killing, probably knowing you wouldn’t like it very much.  Hans and Rose even piped in to tell their own stories as well as Tino. This went late into the night until everyone had fallen asleep.  It had been about 30 minutes or so since Tino fell asleep.  You waited that long since you knew he was a light sleeper, and the moment he saw you get out of bed he’d be on you like a mother hen.

Ever so slowly you shifted yourself until your feet hit the cold wooden floor.  Shivers went up your back at the contact, but you paid no mind.  Your legs felt like they were numb at first since you hadn’t walked in about a good week or more.  Taking hesitant steps, you made your way over to where your clothes were kept and grabbed something heavier.  Your human body was still prone to the cold elements, so you wanted to stay warm.

*After that was done and you put on your boots, you headed out of the house.  The second you opened the door you were met with the chilly night air.  It seemed to be colder than most nights as you hugged your jacket closer to keep whatever warmth you had.  However, out of the corner of your eye you spotted a dark figure heading towards the village gates.  You couldn’t see who exactly it was due to the falling snow, but you knew that no one, not even the guards, would be out in this weather.  Ignoring the aching feelings in your joins and the pain in your shoulder, you decided to follow the figure as best you could.

You lost the figure a few times, but luckily for you, you could just barely make out the footprints in the snow.  The snow had to be at least 6 inches deep, and it was only getting deeper the longer it continued to snow.  There were some spots where you literally had to use dragon fire to make a path, but you made sure the figure didn’t see you.

The figure seemed to be in a slight hurry, and you were having a lot of difficulty keeping up with it.  However, soon enough you came upon a very familiar place, and you were immediately confused as to why the person came here.

It was your cave.

The figure took one glance behind them to make sure no one followed, which you were just able to hide from, before slipping into the cave.  Within seconds you saw a light come from the cave and decided that they probably lit a torch of some kind.

‘What in the world is someone doing here?  And why are they here?’ you kept on asking in your head.  There was nothing in that cave anymore worth of value, and te only thing left in there would have been your now rotted nest.  You hadn’t been in here since the hunters came and you knew very well that the vegetation wouldn’t last that long before decaying.

Without another thought, you trudged through the snow to the entrance and slowly made your way inside.  You took cautious steps into the cave  as you did your best to avoid making any noise.  Once you entered the main cave area, you made sure to stay hidden behind the piles of rock.  You remembered that you were the one to cause them to fall when the hunters came to your cave the first time.  Judging by the size and amount of fallen rock that lay strewn around the floor, you were partially amazed how they had gotten out mostly unscathed.  Not that you wanted them to be hurt, and you were glad that they were still alive.

In the center of the room, now illuminated by wisps summoned by the man, stood Lukas.  He was holding his spellbook in one hand and what looked to be some sort of vial in the other hand.  He began drawing a circle on the ground while you watched form your hiding place.  Once done, he downed the contents of the vial and opened his spellbook.  You heard unfamiliar words leave his mouth as he began to glow an icey blue hue.  Not a moment after he finished he dropped the book and gripped his head in pain.  The light continued to intensify to the point you could no longer watch what was going on, but you felt fear and pure worry for Lukas.  He began to let loose cries of pain, and you felt helpless.

‘What in the world is he doing?!’

Minutes went by and finally the light had dimmed along with his screams.  You opened your eyes once more, letting them readjust, and quickly look over to Lukas.  Only to find that Lukas was not standing there anymore.  In his place lay a large, ice blue dragon.  It’s size matched your own, and it had the same type of pincer at the end of it’s tail as you had.  Everything about it was similar to you.

You shook your head and began to focus on the more important task at hand; was this Lukas?

You moved out from your hiding spot and slowly began to approach the exhausted drake.  It’s breathing was heavy and ragged, not to mention quick.  It’s eyes were shut in what seemed to be pain.  Once you got close enough, within a few yards, you called out a name.

“Lukas?”

The dragon’s eyes shot open to reveal those all too familiar blue eyes.  Shock was clearly passing through them as you were pretty sure he didn’t expect you to be here.  He tried to get up and move, but it clearly was too painful for him to move as he collapsed back down on to the ground.  He let out a low whine as he closed his eyes tightly shut again.  However, even though he was in pain, he shifted his head so that it was pressing up against your smaller form.  He let out a strained rumble which you could tell was to try to comfort you and tell you everything was alright.

Ignoring the sore and painful feeling in your shoulders, you wrapped your arms around his muzzle as best you could and hugged him tight.  How could he do this to himself?  Why did he do this to himself?  Those questions swirled in your head as you tried to come up with answers to questions you could never answer.

Knowing full well you couldn’t just leave Lukas here by himself, you pulled away from him, earning a confused look.  You could kind of tell it hurt him a little that you were moving away from him, but you just gave him a gentle smile as you lowered your head.  You began to shift into a dragon, but you couldn’t suppress the pained hisses and whines as your shoulders screamed in pain.  If Lukas was able to move, you knew he would have tried to stop you.

When you were done shifting, you scales gleamed in the light of the wisps that had continued to light the cavern.  However, Lukas eyes immediately fell to your shoulders and widened in slight alarm.  In the areas your shoulders had been pierced were broken and dull scales.  The wounds, even after a weeks worth of healing, had opened back up slightly allowing blood to drizzle down your front.  Ignoring the pain, you moved around to position yourself around Lukas.  You curled around him from behind and pushed your head under his own to keep his head up.  You heard him sighing in relief and knew that this was making him feel more comfortable.

Giving in to both sleep and pain, you let yourself fall into slumber. Come morning, you planned to ask Lukas a lot of questions; starting with why he did this to himself in the first place.

----Time Skip to morning-----

Your eyes fluttered open at the sound of yelling coming from outside the cave.  You could faintly hear your name being called by multiple voices along with Lukas’.  The voices sounded urgent and a bit panicked.  You almost shot up at the realization before remembering that Lukas was still a dragon and was still asleep with his head over your neck.  You tried to nudge him but he seemed to be in a deep slumber.  Huffing in irritation, you carefully manuevered yourself out from under him.  He barely registered being moved, but you could hear a small whine escape his muzzle at the loss of warmth.

You painfully stood up and shifted back into a human to venture outside.  You walked with shaky legs towards the cave entrance as you tried not to move your arms around.  When you got there you immediately heard gasps and the crunching of snow.  You barely had enough time to register who was running towards you before one of them wrapped their arms around your waist.

“(Name)!! Why in the world are you here?!  You should be in bed resting!  And you didn’t even tell anyone where you went we were so worried,” Tino’s frantic voice rambled into your ear.  You could feel him shaking from being so afraid.  However, before you could utter a word he pulled away to scold you again, but stopped upon seeing your shoulder.

You gave him a confused look before looking down at yourself.  Letting out a gasp you didn’t realize that blood had been seeping through your clothing.  You had red spots that were slowly increasing in diameter around both your shoulders.

“We need to get her back to the village.  Now,” Berwald commanded.  He walked up to you and was about to lift you up, but you quickly backed away.  All 4 of the men looked at you confused as you shook your head.

“I-I can’t leave Lukas here by himself,” you stated before walking back into the cave.

“Lukas?  He’s here too?” Emil asked.

“Was wondering where he took off to.  Should have known you two would eventually sneak off together,” Matthias chuckled, but was cut off by a glare you sent him.

You didn’t keep it up though as your eyes downcast, “I followed him here last night.  He did something that I don’t understand why he did it.”

“What do you mean?” Tino asked, concern making itself known in his voice again.

“Follow me,” you told them and proceeded through the rest of the cave.

The second they all entered the cave, each one gasped out in shock.  The noises seemed to wake Lukas from his sleep as his eyes began to flutter open.  Once focused they landed on all of you and widened in fear.  He apparently didn’t want to be seen like this by anyone, and quickly stood up from the ground.  However, he wasn’t used to his size nor the extra limbs a dragon had as his tail and wings struck the walls of the cave.

“Lukas! Calm down!” you shouted at him, earning his attention.  You could tell he was still tense but he had calmed slightly.

“Wait, THAT’S Lukas?!  What happened to him?” Emil asked.

“He turned himself into a dragon,” you stated simply.  “I still don’t know exactly why though, but I am going get answers.”

Lukas looked away in both shame and embarrassment.  Whatever the reason he did this wasn’t something he’d say out loud.  You walked up to him slowly, causing him to glance down at you.  You weakly, and painfully, held up your arms to him to try to coax him to lower his head.  After a few moments of hesitation, he gave in and lowered his large head into your arms.  He closed his eyes and hummed, but made extra sure he didn’t harm you in any way.  You hugged him as best you could and rubbed his snout.

Everyone else just watched in silence, still trying to process what in the world was going on.  Emil didn’t even know what to make of this.  The thought of his brother becoming a dragon wasn’t even possible.

You whispered something to Lukas to which he responded with a slight nod.  You let him go as he lifted his head back up.  He closed his eyes in concentration as his body became envoloped in light.  Everyone had to shield their eyes from the light, but once it was over there was no longer a dragon standing before them.  Lukas looked down at his hands and flexed them to get a feel for being human again.  When he did look up, his dull blue eyes now held a serpentine slit pupil, shattering any hope you had that he was still human.

As he took his time, you asked the others to meet you both back at the village.  You told them you wanted to talk with Lukas about this in private because becoming a dragon was not something to be taken lightly.  They reluctantly agreed and took off, but not before Tino asked you to not move your arms around too much.  He was always so caring.

Turning your attention back to Lukas, who had now made his way over to you, you sent him a glare that made chills run up his spine.

“Why would you do such a thing as yurn yourself into a dragon?” you asked a bit hostily.  “Don’t you know what this means?  You will outlive your brother and family, and now you are a target for any dragon hunters that wander into the village!”

He said nothing, but his eyes lowered themselves to your wounds.  You could see the worry, fear, and shame he felt flash through his eyes.

“Why did you do this, Lukas?!” You asked again.  You had lowered the tone of your voice and it came out like you had been betrayed.

“I did it for you…” he muttered out.

“Wh-What?”

“I did it for you.  I wanted to protect you and be with you, but I knew that I could only do that for so long and you’d still be in danger after I left this plain.”

You still weren’t understanding the deeper meaning of his words, but you stayed silent encouraging him to continue.

“I didn’t want to leave you behind, but I didn’t just do this to myself to protect you.  Jeg elsker deg,” he spoke honestly.  His hand clenched his shirt over his heart as he continued.  “I knew deep down you would never want to be with me if I was human, so I decided to make myself a dragon.”

“H-How were you even able to do this?”

“Your blood was the key…” he admitted and looked away.

“My blood…when did you…*gasp*” You realized immediately how he got your blood.  When you came back injured from your long flight.

“I have felt this way since you were attacked by the other dragon.  It broke me inside to see you on the brink of death, and not once but twice.  I couldn’t do anything!”

You stayed silent, not knowing how to even respond to this.  You were not the only dragon anymore, but now the other dragon was someone who had family to go back to.  You couldn’t fathom why he would just up and leave that behind.

“Why didn’t you ask me about this first?” you asked lowly.

“You wouldn’t have agreed, and I knew you would have tried to stop me.”

“You’re right, I would have done just that.  Don’t you know what you’ve done?  How could you leave your family like that?!   I wont accept this!  I can’t!”

“So you do not feel the same?” his voice void of any emotion except pain and sadness.

“I never said that…” you growled.  “I have always cared you!  I cared about each of you, but I felt myself more drawn to you.  However, I never let it get beyond that because I knew it would never work out.  I could live for a thousand more years and you would never make it past a fragment of that.  But what you’ve done…I can’t forgive this.  You have so much and you’re just going to throw it away!”

He had a family, friends, and a life to keep on living.  You were just a fragment of a dissolving past that would never see its glory days again.  The age of dragons was over, and it was only a matter of time before its last living essence joined the rest.

“Because I love you,” came his simple answer.

“Just because of that?”

“Love is a powerful emotion, and everyday people do stupid things to stay with the one they love.”

“Like becoming a dragon?”

“Something like that, but probably not as desperate of an act.”

You sighed in defeat.  Nothing you said or did could change anything.  What’s done is done.  However, a part of you was happy that you weren’t alone anymore, and the fact you weren’t the last dragon felt even better.  You didn’t realize Lukas had come so close to you before you felt his arms wrap around you in a comforting embrace.  He was so warm and being in his arms made you feel at peace.

“I’m not going to force you into anything.  That I promise.  I will wait for you until my last days.”

You returned the embrace quickly after hearing those words, “Thank you.  I’m sorry, but even though I do care about you, I need some time with this.”

You felt him nod into your hair as you both melted into your embrace.  Afterwards you had both met up with the others at the village, and most of the villagers were pretty shocked to see Lukas again.  Many cheered that there was now another protector of the village.  A few others, the hunters, were now concerned over their future.  Without Lukas there to help guide them, they felt lost.  Emil most of all.  He felt like he lost something dear to him, though he didn’t show it.

This path was not going to be the easiest one, but somehow you knew it would all turn out all right.

----10 years later----

10 long years had passed since then.  You had taught Lukas everything about being a dragon, and he became a natural at it.  He soared through the skies with ease… and tried to show off to you every now and then.  Your bond had grown overtime, and in that time you came to accept Lukas’ actions.  Not without a reason though.  You could feel Emil’s hidden pain, as well as the others, and you made Lukas create a spell that would bind their lives to yours.  They would live however long you did, so Emil would be able to live together with his brother.

After 10 years of waiting, Lukas tried to convince you to bare his children.  However, you were mostly against the idea.  The developing world didn’t need any more dragons in it, and the more dragons in the area meant more attention gained.  This saddened Lukas greatly, but he knew your words were true.  He didn’t want to risk his family’s lives, but he wished to start a real family with you.

You could feel his envy of the couples in the village.  Especially Rose and Hans, who had started their own family a few years prior.  Their son/daughter was the highlight of the village, and you could tell it made them proud to parents to such a precious life.  It made you feel a small need to be a mother, and after seeing their child grow over a couple years finally broke your shell.

By the end of the 10th year, you and Lukas were expecting a new member of the family.  And you could truthfully say you were happy with hope fate played out.  You had a family again.  A true family.  And nothing could ever take that away from you.

-------Back in China------

Yao and Kiku watched as a new third light shone on the dragonstone.  Warm smiles crossed their faces as they watched as the dragon race had begun to renew itself.

“You think they will be alright, aru?”

“Hai.  They will be.”

“Should we have told her the truth?”

“No.  I believe it is better this way,” Kiku smiled as he walked out of their home.

“Maybe you’re right.  Besides, everything seems to be turning out for the better,” Yao stated as he followed close behind.

Nodding to each other, both burst into light before two slender serpentine dragons rose into the sky from where they once stood.  The dragons wove around each other before flying off into the distance.

Dragons may have disappeared from history, but that didn’t mean they were truly ever gone.

The End~

Ohmigod, imagine if you made a sequel of this in the morern times when most of the countries are actually dragons, which is why they represent this one certai; country. Plus like Emil(and we’re the others blinded as well) is blinded to Lukas so he does live as long as Lukas. That would be super Kool, but you don’t have to. So yeah!

"When he did look up, his dull blue eyes now held a serpentine slit pupil, solidifying any hope you had that he was still human."

I don't think solidifying is the right word here. Maybe try "shattering" or "destroying" if you're going for a more negative connotation.

That would be a fun idea to do, however with so many different endings for each of the five Nordics it would be a little hard to do so.
I may look into it in the future and perhaps do it for the additional ending I have planned, but until then I'm going to have to say no. Sorry ^^'

Ooh, I have a question Author-san, Kiku and Yao didn't show on the dragonstone, could it be because they're oriental dragons and not European ones? It would explain why they were so fascinated with reader-chan's scales, considering that some oriental dragons are depicted with large amounts of fur or just quite large scales as opposed to European dragons. If that were to be the case, it would be a bit odd for the stone to be kept around China (I've decided that it was in the Himalayan mountains because of their height) which brings up the question of did Kiku and Yao have some way of repressing their dragon-ness so that it didn't show up on the dragon stone?

Nightsevera In reply to pixiedust-95 [2015-08-03 07:34:25 +0000 UTC]

I'm terribly sorry for not being more detailed on this fact ^^' I honestly didn't think about it till afterwards.

Most of your guesses are correct.  Yao and Kiku were suppressing their dragon forms, or their dragon beings themselves.  The stone didn't track them for this very reason.  The stone detects a dragons life energy, but if repressed for a long time the energy gets mutated or weaker, if you know what I mean.  I also had the idea that it was because they were different species of dragon, but didn't think too far into it.  It is confusing if the stone was in China and the other dragons didn't show up.

I hope this somewhat explains what happened OTL  again I'm terribly sorry for the confusion.  If you have anymore questions about the story, I have no problem answering them

Ahh tysm for answering my question! Your story was great and that ending got me thinking. And since you have the opportunity with both of the reasons why they couldn't be seen on the stone, you could use that for future endings for your story!

NUUU! I DIDNT KNOW LUKAS WOULD TURN INTO A DRAGON, AND AT THE START OF THE STORY THING, I MADE 'Reader-Dragon' LOOK ALMOST EXACTLY LIKE WHAT LUKAS LOOKS LIKE RIGHT NOW! DANG!!!!! Sorry for caps, btw. C;

(Only to find that Lukas was not standing there anymore.

He let out a strained rumble which you could tell was to try to comfort you and tell you everything was alright.)

I almost forgot how there aren't just Western dragons in the world haha so its a rather good idea that you decide to incorporate Eastern ones too. Very nice twist. Maybe this Dragonstone only keeps track of Western dragons and not the latter, so the possibility of other species still existing and untouched by humans is very probable.

I really like the idea of other communities of dragons that neither Reader, the Nordics and perhaps even Yao and Kiku are not aware of. Maybe each species is over seen by a different Dragonstone, or something similiar to one. Who knows, that might be a whole community of deep sea dragons or volcanic dragons that are unheard of. The possibilities are endless.

Another great ending. Can't wait for the final one of Norway's.
