Nice, I did rifle too, but what materials you used to render like this?

Hi there and thanks
Β
To be honest, I don't really remember the material I used.Β I think itΒ was a simple material from KeyshotΒ with a bit gloss and black.

Very Nice! I have blender too, but have yet to learn how to use it. How long has this model taken so far?

As this is my first highpoly model of a weapon, it took me a time. Hmm.. Arround 30 hours or... maybe more
UV unwrapping will be next or something else in between ^^

I see. I have an interest in using DAZ Studio as a platform for comics and would like to learn a 3D program such as blender to model clothes, props, and scenery.

I noticed a flaw on the stock region of the rifle. The Castle nut is missing it's notchs that fit the Armoring wrench. Also, you completely left out the backplate that is just in front of the Castle nut and made it [at least appear] to be a solid piece of the receiver, rather than a small plate.
I only bring it up because the rest of the rifle is so accurate but that one spot is missing the allotted things I mentioned above.

Yeah, you're right. I realized that too as I went trough some detailed pics of the M4 again. But just after I put this render on DA . I think I'll correct this ones when I'm doing the UV seaming process - thanks for your input
Is that backplate a standart piece? It was not on all reference pictures I had

I snagged you some additional refferances from a website that has a lot of AR-platform parts.
Bare receiver where you can see the back end near the buffer tube/receiver extension. [link]
Castle nut: [link]
And the Receiver end plate [link]

Is this the rifle you made by following the Blender cookie Citizen tutorial? I noticed that tutorial from what I can see of it [while not being a citizen] has the same faults on the stock region, as well as the 2-0-3 step on the barrel.

Correct. I've followed that tutorial, as I wanted to achieve some techniques. I'm using Blender only since December 2012
There are more things missing in the tutorial and I did not made everything completely like they propose. It's not a perfect tutorial but very good to learn some nice tricks

Absolutely, in that regards. Proper mesh structure is always good. =3
