Description
ok! My hand tutorial! -^_^- I hope this helps a lot I know I still have problems with hands and feet. They are the hardest things to draw if you ask me! Anyway continuing onStep 1- Here all I did was do some line gestures. I drew a circle to represent the wrist then drew lines to the knuckles and I included the bends of the fingers and thumb. All this with just a line. I also included what some people like to call "Sight lines" These are lines that you use to represent angles like the angle of the line that is from one finger tip to the next.
Step 2 - This is my favorite part. Here I looked at the hands I was drawing and saw all kinds of different shapes! I sketched in all these shapes. That's really what the body is just a lot of shapes formed by bones and muscles. If you can see these different shapes then it helps! I also did what some people call "Cross Contour" On the arm in the middle. This is when you draw a line across part of a body in order to give it volume.
Step 3- Here is where I went through and have started outlining my shapes. How this isn't something that is easy to find. it took me a little while to find the right shape for the lines but the shapes help a lot. Another great thing to use these shapes for is shading although I wasn't able to get to that point with this tutorial I will cover it in another in the future!
-^_^- I hope this helps! Hands are really hard! I still have a way to go!

It takes a lot and lot of practice. Just think of the shapes that make up the hand instead of thinking of the outline for it. I used to draw a box and then draw lines for the individual fingers. After I drew the lines I would draw the oval shapes that make up the different sections in the fingers. I also had a lot of figure drawing classes where I would have to draw 25 hands in a sketchbook by the end of the semester so the more you practice the better you will get.

They really are but if you think about the shapes that make up the hand it makes it much easier to draw. Sometimes I will ask one of my friends if I can draw their hand and if they don't mind if I draw some shapes on their hand wiht a ballpoint pen. That tends to help me out a lot when it comes to drawing them.

lol I don't know if I would draw shapes on an actual hand, but I'll still try using shapes for drawing hands.

Just remember not to press down too hard when you are drawing the shapes so you can erase t hem away later.

Yes I hope you do. It is a nice way to try drawing hands. I tend to draw from real life sometimes.. X.x trying to twist my hand into the position I need so doing quick gestures of the shapes can help me out a lot. -^_^- Let me know if the style works for you or not.

You are welcome! They really help with perspective to! Like when you are drawing a full figure you find the angle of the line from their shoulder to knee. I will see if I can't do an entire tutorial just on that. They helped me out a lot when I first learned about them"!

yes! I love figure drawing! that is what I would love to teach! -^_^- I modeled for classes for about four years and kind of became the teachers assistant. She would ask me to come and sit in on her beginning classes with her and critique people. It was a lot of fun.

Yes there are a few.. then there are some that just are horrible. I had my painting teacher yell at me in college. She was very cruel but it taught me a lot about a real world situation. Not everyone is always going to like you or your art work. You just have to be able to somehow deal with it and move on.

Yes. I know it seems really hard when you are going through a situation like that. It feels very unfair that any teacher would do that but at the same time real life is not fair so it's a good way to prepare for what happens once you get completely out of school.

Yes. I have actually been in the work force since I was 13. I have had many bosses. A lot of times they would just use me. I worked for a floral department for five years where I was doing all the manager's jobs while she did nothing but make floral arrangements. When I quit because I was moving for school she was fired about six months after that because she didn't know how to do her job because she had me doing it for so long. She even made me go to the company manager meetings for her. It was crazy. She was getting the salary while I was getting the hourly. X.x
